PostPosted: 14:34 - 28 Jun 2007    Post subject: Advice on used Hornet price Reply with quote

I'm going to have a look at a used Hornet this weekend (dealer). It's an 02 reg, about 10,700 miles, supposedly very good condition, for £3,500.

That's about all I know before I go and check it out. Does that sounds reasonable or should I aim for a lower price (will try to lower the price anyway but wondering if this is an inflated figure to start with).

I'll be trading in my XR125 as well.

Thanks.

yea, i have never brought from dealer and think i only would for a bike worth £4k or more.

You get it cheaper, and if the seller seems desperate you can haggle more i find.

You could get much more than a '02 plate for £3500 for a hornet Thumbs Up

Hmm, definitely sounds too expensive then, will keep an eye out for better deals from deaelers or go private. Just think it would be easier to get rid of my xr125 with a trade-in. Any advice if I were to sell it privately? Would you accept test drives (I'm thinking no so it doesn't turn into a permanent test drive...)?

A bit reluctant to do that as I've never taken a pillion, just passed my DAS recently...

3500 is a little steep for an '02 plate Hornet, even from a dealer.

From a dealer you'd be looking at somewhere around 2800 - 3000, for an '02.

Unless is was a true Minter, but that's doubtful.

if they put the money in your hands let them test ride it. That's a good way to do it.

Remember there are LOADS of Hornets out there, so you can afford to be very picky and haggle loads.

Trade ins, want a laugh, my Honda dealer offered me £600 for my just under 2 year old Honda CG125 with nearly 10,000 miles on the clock. The bike is in perfect condition.
That’s only less than half the bikes worth on the market!

Used bike price guides

https://www.parkers.co.uk/motorbikes/used-prices/

https://www.usedbikeguide.com/bible/index.asp

A 2002 hornet for £3500 is a rip off, last year loads of dealers were selling off the 2006 model brand new since the 2007 model has been redesigned a lot.
The 2006 model was being flogged off new for less than £4000

Well went to the dealer, he knocked the price down to 3,150 (from 3,500). Bike's in very good condition, one owner from new, just under 11,000 miles, has an alarm, and they're going to service it (due a service now) for free. Took a quick test drive, wow...

They offered me 1,400 for my XR125 (3,300 miles, good condition). So I'll have to fork out 1,750. I said I'll think about it...

To be honest would prefer to buy from a dealer to avoid the risk, hassle and cost of a bike that falls apart shortly after buying it, but still feel the price is high.

Spoon261, a 2006 hornet for under 4,000?? where??

Offer him 2k and see if he bikes. Complete with builder style teeth sucking and "I don't know if I can afford that" type remarks.

They were selling off the 2006 model in 2006

I saw 3 Honda dealers selling them off below £4000.
They were very desperate to get rid of them due to the 2007 model.

Last autum it was a massive honda dealer and my small local honda dealer.

Last spring it was another small local honda dealer

The way I do it is that they sign the v5 in pencil, hand the money over, I give them a receipt saying that have a 30 minute warranty on the bike, and if they bring it back then in the same condition they get a full refund.

That way if theyre caught with no insurance they have no comeback as it is now their bike.
