On my way home from work today I was held up in traffic so I did what anyone else would do on a bike and filtered. In the distance I see a marked police car who decided to pull towards the white lines as I approached in order to make passing difficult. See a big enough gap emerge as I am still moving and I pass him. Pulled back over to my side of the road as not to overtake on a crossing and carried on.

I was amazed to see that the police car driver had decided to take it upon himself to overtake all the traffic and crossing to get behind me. At the traffic lights he gets out and asks me to pull over and wait for him.

The driver was a PCSO and he decided to give me a lecture on the dangers of motorbikes and riding like I did. He said I was lucky I wasn't getting a fine off him. Slightly annoyed by his attitude I asked him what he was going to fine me for to which he couldn't answer me.

I then asked him when the regulations were changed to allow a PCSO to use blue lights and overtake traffic and then informed him that he had committed an offence of overtaking on a pedestrian crossing. He asked how I knew and I told him I was a Traffic Officer. He turned a very pale white and gulped.

The morale of the story is if these clowns are becoming the public face of the police service then I am speechless. They dont know the law, cannot arrest, cannot attend serious incidents so why do they drive marked police cars? Stick to litter duties...

You have to pity the individuals who do these jobs because lets be honest we all need to make a living. But creating these roles, Police Community Support Officer, Highways Agency Traffic Officer etc.. without the training or the powers is pointless, wasteful, and no substitute for investing in the Police Force per se.

Don't you just love it when a plan comes together? Thumbs Up

I know I have been out of operational service for a while, but this type of thing has been going on for years in one form or another, nice to be in a position to put one over on him! Thumbs Up

Well done. Very Happy

I've been complaining to my local old bill about dangerous and obstructive parking at a road junction on my route in to work - yesterday i finally saw a copper there writing down numberplates (maybe even issuing tickets).
Great?
Not quite - in order to minimize the distance he actually had to walk to see all the illegally and dangerously parked vehicles, the lazy cunt had double parked his car about 10 foot from the junction and (as i was in my car) i had to ask him to move it so i could get passed.
Nice work there PC Plod.
Thumbs Up

You should have also added that by moving over to the white lines he was also causing a danger to other road users and not showing the correct police driving skills.

Perhaps you should forward some comments about this guy to his station to make sure he gets the message. Would hate to see our much melined boys in blue get a pasteing for someone like this taking someout while driving in this manner, as much as he not a full policeman that would count for nothing in the press.....

PCSO's can Drive marked and Unmarked Vehicles provided they pass the test issued by the force itself. They cannot however use Blues and twos whilst moving, but can when stationary. So yes, reporting him would be of use here.

It all depends on which force....most Home Office Forces have very little powers, however a few do have. For example BTP have all 60 Powers, plus the 30 Byelaws which can offer powers of Arrest. Therefore they can do quite a lot, probably the ones to watch for.

I was filtering past traffic the other day... coincidentially, 3 policemen on their BMW tourers things went past me one by one. They didnt pull me, but they turned their head in my direction with their tinted black visors and carried on ahead.
