Hi all. I would like to de-restrict my moped. At the moment i can only get 32 mph out of it. Below is a link on a website which says i can derestrict it by cutting a wire near the battery conpartment. Is this correct or is there a different way to derestrict it correctly?

Many thanks for your time.

Aran.

you can all but try, that wire may be a wire from the speedo the limits it, being a 4 stroke you really arnt going to get much more out of it any way.
try it and see, if it doesnt work then reconnect the wire Thumbs Up

there are many different types of restriction for mopeds, a CDI restriction is just one of them.
chances are you also would have an exhaust restrictor, maybe a carb washer restrictor and a drive belt restrictor.
research it a bit more thoroughly before you do anything.
what sort of ped is it?

yeh thats what i was thinking. I dont know if its a 4 or 2 stroke because on the manufactors website and the dealers website it says its a 4 stroke but on the information booklet that came with it, it says its a 2 stroke. I thought there is a washer or something near the gearbox somehere thats what most people say on different websites.

Its a JMStar Madness 50QT-13 moped a chinease import.

I dont know if theres oil in the petrol. All i do is fill the petrol up n thats it using unleaded.

It doesnt sound like any of them lol. Its more like a noise that is fairly quiet n then it gets louder when i accelerate n it stays at the same noise level etc all the way through until i reach 32 its max speed.

chances are its not restricted.
try farting and dry humping it at the same time for a few extra 0.1mph.

as someone above mentioned, there are lots of different ways of derestricting mopeds.
A few people end up coming back to our shop complaining that someone else has done it but it hasnt made a difference.
a lot of fools think all you have to do is remove the O ring that stops the crank rollers coming all the way out (works in a way)
if you are deristricting something like a speedfight you need to blank off and chop/reweld certain parts of the exhausts, (this is where many fall fowl of knowledgeable policemen who can recognise this) then remove the ring washer then put in a bigger jet (not saying what size Smile) if only the exhaust is done the mixture will be wrong and eventually the bike will seize.
with some chinese bikes we sell the derestrict is usually at the top of the carb stopping the needle from going all the way up, we just remove it.
some again you have to cut a wire, (this is common with quite a few bikes, not just derestricting 50's)
if your bike is the same model as is sold by rock bikes the way they say should be right.
Personally you should listen to what there saying though because if your bike is derestricted you need a certificate saying so to validate your insurance.
that and the fact that when you sell it you have to sell it as a derestricted bike, no 16 year old can buy it and insure it legally and no 17 year old will want it when a 125 will go faster so your stuck with it.

hope that makes sence.

Stu

EDIT, just noticed that the bike in question is either a kinroad or a sukida.
if its a sukida try looking at the carb, if it has a large flat bras looking bit on top take that off, inside check to see if it has a screw thing on a post thingy attatched to the inside of the brasss type thing you removed, if so snap it off, throw away and put it back together, this whould make it do 35 mph at a push Smile

is that how much my ped can take then? I tried to cut the wire near the battery as spoken before in this topic but i cant even start it now so i have soldered it back to place. What is the easiest option to derestrict it then? I read up if i took this cover thing or something out of the air filter it would make the ped go faster is this true?

Becuase you won't get a 50cc 4 stroke engine to go any faster than 30mph.

No its not , you havent put oil in the petrol, if it was 2 stroke and you havent put oil in the petrol then the engin will be f'u'c'k'e'd by now.
