hi, i had my first off on the 4th, im ok just my arms had surgery n 4 days of hospital etc. Anyways i cba to type much with one hand but im claiming for my bike, policy thinks its not modified but got different headlight and end can. Its an independant company (not from bennetts) coming to evaluate the damage even though its almost definately a write off. Reckon the small mods will matter and/or has any1 got any experience with a similar situation? the same has happened with my car in the past with aftermarket wheels and they didnt bat an eyelid. thanks in advance

dont know what you can do with the headlight - but my mate was knocked of his R1 - his insurance company was coming to assess the damage so we removed the endcan and just said it had been misplaced - could even still be at scene of accident / or in the rear of our other mates van who collected the bike from the road - the bike was proper totalled, so he got away with it.

What do you mean by an after-market headlight?

Depends if it's your insurance or thiers.

Yours could say "We'll charge you the extra £x as if we knew about it", where as thiers could say "This was a potentially determining factor in the crash, we'll have to look further into it".

Although your insurance could be deemed as "invalid" I'd be surprised if they out right said they wouldn't cover you. I doubt the assessor will care too much, it's not his money, but then again, he could be a jobsworth...

Best of luck, and you it gets sorted soon. Smile

Insurance companies are not allowed to invalidate a policy simply on the basis that it has been modified, unless that modification is proven to be directly related to the cause of the accident, particularly in respect of third party claims, or it is specified within the terms of the policy.

However, what insurers will do is replace modified parts with OE parts, so for example if a bike is fitted with a £1,000 exhaust system and the OE system is £500, the payout will be for the OE part not the aftermarket more expensive system.
