and selling both my bike and current car to get a better car - I have my heart set on a Mazda MX-5.

I love bikes and I love riding them, but there's too many crazy fools on the road. Everytime I go out on the bike someone tries to kill me.

I may wait until I live in the south of France and then think about buying a sportsbike (you don't even really need a license there...)

I'm kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place - I love bikes, but they're just not practical and to be honest it's costing me a lot to pay insurance, petrol, maintinence, etc on two vehicles.

What should I do! Help!

Whatever floats your boat really mate, people don't 'try' and kill you, and if it happens every day there's probably a fault with your riding that will show up in your driving sooner or later anyway.

All too easy to blame things on other people, ok I get the odd situation where I have to react with other road users mistakes but because you plan ahead and anticipate it becomes part and parcel of road riding

If it's seriously getting you down, try advanced lessons or pack in riding altogether because it's too committed to do half arsed.

How much insurance & maintenance can you be paying on the CG125? Petrol is a moot point, you can only use one vehicle at a time.

It's not that I'm scared to ride a bike, but I hear horror stories every day (on here, and from my biker/ex-biker mates) of people coming off and losing limbs/getting seriously injured/etc.

To be honest I'm not at the stage in my life where I want to risk life and limb more than I have to. I'm only young and I have a lot of things to do first.

I suppose I'm just wondering if any of you have ever felt the same way.

I'm sure there's thousands of happy healthy long term bike riders in the UK

You can only be careful and keep your skills sharp and on top of your maintainance

Wear decent kit, take lessons to brush up if you feel rusty, get the bike booked into a garage and regularly serviced by a competant mechanic

These 3 things give the best chances on the road

I sold up around 7 years ago and got a car as we were expecting a baby, and there was no way I could afford a bike and car at that time. Couple of years later I was in a position to get a bike again so I did. Now I'm able to afford it as a hobby rather than my main transport, which I can honest say I prefer as it gives me something to look forward to doing.

Its not the end of the world, there is nothing to say you cant buy one again in the future.

If you want a car, get one, f**k what anyone else thinks!

You can always get another bike further down the line.

I bought my old 5 in January and barely touched a bike until last month. Novelty's wearing off now, but for a few months I was always just taking it out for a drive. Still puts a grin on my face when I do.


That being said, the 'everyone's out to kill me' isn't a great angle... for a start, they'll still try and kill you in your little tin box. If you're talking mk1 MX5, you really don't have much more protection going for you than you do on a bike.

Have you looked into how much it'll cost to run? Insure? Again, if we're talking an older model then they do need a bit of looking after, certainly compared to yer current diesel (I sure as hell never bothered servicing or putting decent tyres on my old oil burner!).

After a crash I sold the bike and now driving my car. Once I've sorted my life out a bit with my girlfriend and got a steady job etc I will buy another bike, It's all up to what suits you best! For me, I only really enjoy bikes for stunting, other people use them for commuting! Why not take up offroading/MX if you dont want to stay off 2 wheels entirely?

I had this problem a few months back, having owned a bike and a car for almost 2 years i really was broke. So sell the bike and car and get a Golf GTi yeh it would be good they drive well, not too slow, you dont get wet, easier for picking up girls going on dates ect..... So i got the car... Fek off who gives a shit about practically all i know is that i love bikes and now i just ride a bike i may get a bit wet, you may get twats pulling out on you but it would not be biking if things like that did not happen! And its all worth it, but i am a tart and own a 636 and would choose the Golf over a commuter bike! But i have been riding longer then i have been driving so have pretty good awareness (spidey sense) and usually spot the twat before he pulls out on me!

Go for it, i have been driving from 17 year old up untill i was 20 (2006) and then decided to use the bike as my main form of transport, as driving the cars got boring and too expensive.

Once ive purchased a bigger bike, i will probably be looking for a cheap car for winter like a Mk3 Golf GTI or something along them lines.

However i wont be using it to pick up girls, as i think its shawllow that girls go out with lads just because they have cars.

Can still pull women easy enough being on a CBR 125

I am with toby on this, cg's are easy to keep, cheap on petrol and if your broke with that things are not good. I stick a few quid in my bike and it goes for miles and costs me nothing on insurance.

I actually have days where i think people are trying to kill me. but not, it just looks like it, people popping out of junctions and breaking late when they see me, thats normal, its up to you be be the cautious one and watch them. You should be doing that anyway.

Thinking that your going to be ripped apart in a bike crash is bad, it will do nothing for your riding skills and confidence.

You dont sound fir for a bike anymore so i surgest you get a car then.
