Im looking to get a honda cbr600f, either a 91/93 or 97 model as they are all for sale nearby at pretty similar prices.

I've looked all around this site and google and havnt found any reviews for these bikes (or at least any that were useful) and i was wondering if anyone has had or still has any of these bikes and if they think its a gd bike to own.

Iv'e been told its a good all rounder and good for a 1st proper sports bike but not much else.

so can anyone tell me about any good or bad experiances with these bikes?

My dad's got a 98, it's the same as the 97. They are solid machines and hold their value well. The best real world sports bike.

Only thing that you need to watch out for are cam chain tensioners and reg-recs.

i have a cbr600, '91 which has a steel frame, i do find it rather heavy, but its indestructable, virtually bombproof. it starts first time, every time. i've had other bikes, but this one i keep. Wink

how would it handle a 33 bhp restriction?, iv'e heard some bikes loose a lot of speed when restricted because it doesnt get high enough revs(or something like that)

If you're looking at the CBR600 to restrict I'd suggest taking a look at the earlier Hornet 6's, same bomb proof motor, but it's been re-tuned for more mid-range so it takes the restriction a little better. Something like an SV would be better suited if you're looking to restrict though.

I think the CBR would be ok restricted, but I don't have any experience of it.

spend a bit more for £1800 you can get a '99 alloy frame version which feels alot different, capable fast , and with high enough capabilities that you will not hit its limits for ages.

as everybnody said on me french trip ,, its a good all rounder,

watch out for the damned CCT failures tho

I said real world. R6, revvy as fook, CBR- RR same as the F only more foccussed, the GSXR is pretty close though.

I wasn't talking about tenth of a second round a race track, I meant practicality and all round useability as well. For 90% of people 90% of the time the CBR600F is probably one of the better bikes.

Because you know how many people that use those bikes to their limits on public roads?

Left behind? Laughing . Up until 2005 the CBR600F had fully adjustable suspension the same as the RR, the engine is virtually identical (in fact it probably is identical) and the only other thing that's different is the styling, seat and slightly higher clip-ons.

I was talking to the (very helpful) parts guy in Woods Motorcycles today about the CBR. I mentioned I was thinking of getting a 1990 CBR600F and asked him what he thought. He told me to go for the 1991F-2 onwards models as they are easy to get parts for and go on forever and to try and avoid the original 1987-1990 Hurricane and F model as they are pretty dated now. He said he has a mate with an old CBR with over 40k on the clocks and he still goes touring on it and does trackdays. He even had a look on ebay to show me what was around for what price. He told me it'd be better to wait until the end of summer because CBR's will be 10 a penny and I'd be able to take my pick at whatever price level I was looking at.

Sound advice if you ask me!

I am considering getting a CBR 600 too.

At the moment i have a CBR 125. Had it around 3 months (my 1st bike). I use it to commute to work every day (around 3 miles each way) and love to go out on evenings/weekends if the weathers dry.

Its perfect to get to work on, but i want something with more power for when im riding it for pleasure. My budget is £2000 max.

Would a CBR 600 be suitable for my needs?

I had a 2000 CBR 600 FY which was a real good bike, comfortable but sporty will do 150+ with my 17 stone on it. It has a decent riding position for your first big bike as the bars are not too low and can do a lot of miles without much pain. Insurance i found it to be more expensive than a lot of 600's out there.

Hi everyone

I'm a newbie - taking my DAS test next week and hope to get a CBR600F as a first big bike. I'm 28 and can keep it garaged, so insurance isn't toooo painful. I'll be using it for weekend riding and the odd longer trip every month or two (4-500 miles).

I've got a max budget of £2000. What's most important - to get as low mileage as possible or to get as new a bike as possible?

Is there any particular year I should stay away from? How much is 'too much' mileage - I need something that's reliable and won't spend most of its time in the workshop. At what kind of mileage would you expect to need to do a major service (ie replace shocks, etc)?

Any advice would be much appreciated.
Safe riding,
Sam.

not gettin a zxr anymore, the guy just sold it so now im looking for something else.

Been looking around autotrader and ebay, thinking of getting a vfr 400 now, although the headlights do put me off a wee bit.

im going to be 20 in a few weeks and have 0 years on my liscence so insurance for a 600cc is around £800 or so while for a 400cc its around 550.

Also i will have to have the bike restricted to 33bhp which would be a waste on a 600

Age isn't really a big problem with CBR's. I'd get the bike with the best service history.

Say there was a 12k er with no history and a 20k er with FSH I'd be more inclined to for for the one with history......

get a Hornet 600? , same insurance group as the '30 but way more power and torque even in restricted form,

Cheers for the info so far - dead useful.

Dare I say it on this forum, but a few people have told me that a cbr600f might be a bit loopy for a first big bike, and that I'd be better off cutting my teeth on something like a Yamaha Fazer 600 - what do you guys think?!

Another reason for this (they said) was that servicing and replacement parts would be cheaper on the Fazer than on a late 90's CBR...

I think that's got be the first time i've ever heard the words 'CBR600F' and 'a bit loopy' in the same sentence.
Words i'd expect to hear in the same sentence as 'CBR600F' are 'dull' and 'dishwater' - i'd even chuck in 'fugly' for good measure.
Laughing
But, i'm just a tad biased as you may have guessed. Depends what you want from a bike really, if your ideal bike is 'a good all rounder' you won't be disappointed. If you want something that stirs your soul, gives you a semi-lob on and makes you loose in the bowel area, get something else.

Thumbs Up
