My dad's got a 98, it's the same as the 97. They are solid machines and hold their value well. The best real world sports bike.
Only thing that you need to watch out for are cam chain tensioners and reg-recs. ____________________ My Flickr |

i have a cbr600, '91 which has a steel frame, i do find it rather heavy, but its indestructable, virtually bombproof. it starts first time, every time. i've had other bikes, but this one i keep. ____________________ never say "never"!!! |

If you're looking at the CBR600 to restrict I'd suggest taking a look at the earlier Hornet 6's, same bomb proof motor, but it's been re-tuned for more mid-range so it takes the restriction a little better. Something like an SV would be better suited if you're looking to restrict though.
I think the CBR would be ok restricted, but I don't have any experience of it. ____________________ My Flickr |

spend a bit more for £1800 you can get a '99 alloy frame version which feels alot different, capable fast , and with high enough capabilities that you will not hit its limits for ages.
as everybnody said on me french trip ,, its a good all rounder,

I was talking to the (very helpful) parts guy in Woods Motorcycles today about the CBR. I mentioned I was thinking of getting a 1990 CBR600F and asked him what he thought. He told me to go for the 1991F-2 onwards models as they are easy to get parts for and go on forever and to try and avoid the original 1987-1990 Hurricane and F model as they are pretty dated now. He said he has a mate with an old CBR with over 40k on the clocks and he still goes touring on it and does trackdays. He even had a look on ebay to show me what was around for what price. He told me it'd be better to wait until the end of summer because CBR's will be 10 a penny and I'd be able to take my pick at whatever price level I was looking at.
Sound advice if you ask me! ____________________ Now: '00 Kawasaki ZRX1100R - Past: '84 Yamaha DT125, '89 Kawasaki KLR600, '97 Yamaha XJ600N

I had a 2000 CBR 600 FY which was a real good bike, comfortable but sporty will do 150+ with my 17 stone on it. It has a decent riding position for your first big bike as the bars are not too low and can do a lot of miles without much pain. Insurance i found it to be more expensive than a lot of 600's out there. ____________________ Current: 2019 Yamaha T7 -> 2015 KTM Superduke R | 2000 Yamaha R1 Past -> 2009 KTM 990 SM -> 2005 kawasaki ZX10r -> 2000 Honda CBR 600 FY -> 2002 Honda XLV 125 Varadero

I think that's got be the first time i've ever heard the words 'CBR600F' and 'a bit loopy' in the same sentence.
Words i'd expect to hear in the same sentence as 'CBR600F' are 'dull' and 'dishwater' - i'd even chuck in 'fugly' for good measure.
But, i'm just a tad biased as you may have guessed. Depends what you want from a bike really, if your ideal bike is 'a good all rounder' you won't be disappointed. If you want something that stirs your soul, gives you a semi-lob on and makes you loose in the bowel area, get something else.

Well, I'd kinda like to keep my bowels in one place - at least while I'm learning how to handle a big bike. Gimme 6 months! |
