It's all gone horribly wrong.

I passed my DAS with a friend on friday, he bought an SV650s and i got a Gixxer 600. The plan was to go out every so often to and blow out the cobwebs while leaving the wives and sprogs at home. Good Times

His Missus has now taken her CBT and theory, spent best part of a grand on Alpinestar kit and wants to take her test. In the meantime she has welded herself to the pillion seat and will not let go!! Bad times

Has anyone else had similar experiences? Not too sure what to do now, i'm ok with going out on my own but it's not got the same appeal as blatting about with a mate.

thank god, I thought you were going to tell us that he'd been involved in some horrific crash. on that note, things could be alot worse. well maybe once shes on her own bike instead of his back seat you might get a ride out with him every so often Thumbs Up

In a similar kind of vein, myself and my best mate were 'biking buddies' too or however you want to put it. We'd have some decent blasts out now and again, we went to a fair few Superbike meetings, we even went to the Dutch TT/MotoGP round at Assen a couple of years ago etc and our next trip that we were planning was to do the Nurburgring.

Anyway getting back to the point, he found the lady of his dreams and they soon bought a house together etc, so the bike had to go. This left me with a bit of a problem as I lost my 'biking buddy' and going out by yourself does get a bit boring after a while.

The solution that I found that has solved the problem was to 'join' a local bike club. I'm not talking anything formal, but I found/linked on to a local (internet) forum that catered for like minded people in my local area. This was probably one of the best biking kind of things that I have done. The group that I now associate myself with are all 'real' people. That is in no way disrespectful to any BCF members, but what I mean is that I actually meet up and rideout with the members of this local forum and hence the majority of regulars on the website I actually know in person. They are not just a name on a computer screen.

Okay so I have lost my best biking mate, but I have gained many other friends who are like minded bikers too. I had never experienced a group rideout before either but I have learned that they are real fun everytime.

I realise that you haven't so much lost your biking mate, rather than he has got his bird tagging along constantly, but my advice is that you either put up with it, because you don't want him to have to choose between you and his missus, or you could find some other like minded people in your area so if he and his missus choose to go out by themselves, you will be able to do your biking with others instead. Thumbs Up

I dont mind taking a random lass out on the back of my bike every so often, But id get pretty pissed off if I had a girlfriend and she wanted to come out on it all the time.

Id probably just wheelie everywhere and GMKD with her on the back to put her off a bit. Twisted Evil

My girlfriend nearly always comes with me on the bike if I go anywhere. That or she would ride her own bike there. I don't mind and the people I have ridden with don't mind eather. why should they?

I prefer riding on my own. You can go at your own pace and go where you want. There is no competition, there is no chance of disagreement.

Go out on your own and chuckle at what your mate is missing!

He'll have to go slow all the time unless his missus is a thrill seeking equal to himself. (Which to be fair there are a few women who are, but my missus for example would probably never go over 30mph! Laughing )

I ride on my own, with my OH, with OH and his mates and meet up with girlies too. So...if she does progress to passing her test, it doesnt necessarily mean she will want to be stuck to her OH like glue.

Just tell your mat to get her through her test, then he can give her the SV and buy himself a nice new sports 600 to ride instead! Wink

Yea i wonder about riding with people (other bikes) two up. I ride like a bit of a pussy when the GFs on the back. I really cant justify any sort of hooning knowing i could seriously hurt/kill someone that means a lot to me. I was on a ride with an old school friend who turned up 2 up. He was riding at a pace i wouldnt be comfortable (had i been 2 up) as this was his GF.

Also, i find i cant get the right body position before corners with a pillion which effect my lean angle which then affects my corner speed. Maybe its just how i ride but i like to be back in the seat with balls of feet on pegs and just cant seem to be comfortable with a pillion Confused

I am lucky enough to have a good pillion so I don't even notice she is there. but a bad pillion is a nightmare and completly screws the bike up.

There's no animosity with him or his missus, I'd happily go out as the gooseberry. He just ends up going out with her on the back and i never hear about it til they get back and tell me what a great time they had.

Time to branch out me thinks. Off to Hunstanton on friday to see what's about up there.

Cheers for all the posts, made interesting reading.
