Just reading the manchester evening news and there is a story about the shesha lounge in cheetam hill.
Apparently they believe that their customers should be exempt from the smoking ban and allowed to smoke shesha waterpipes ( filled with flavoured tobacco) as its a "cultural" thing and popular with the muslim community !!
So they are now trying to raise £20,000 to go to court to see if they can overturn the ruling.
Im sorry, but its one rule for EVERBODY isnt it. |

Another case of one for us and not for them.....
We are not allowed to bleed animals to death in a abattoir without stunning them 1st, but if you are halal trained then you can.....
Do they think the animal suffers any less coz that guy is of a certain religion.....
What really surprizing is that they have not got legal aid for the case..... ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

In my eyes, people go to the shisha places specifically to smoke it, so, if they want to continue, I don't see the problem as it is a confined space to that building, not as if they are smoking in the street. Although, I do know of a few business who are still selling shisha despite the fact it's banned. And as you say, predominantly, it is a 'Muslim thing', so I don't see how it should bother you, I assume you try to avoid them.Or is it because you feel as though they are getting one over you. I really doubt its 'the goverment'. If there was specific places to have a cigarette, then I would be OK with that too, not where people go to do other things as well, drinking, socializing, cinema et cetera. ____________________ Veni Vidi Vici |

yeah! and the english go to a pub specifically to drink a pint and smoke a cig but we fucking cant now can we, so heres a direct comparison.
We have a hut at work that was a designated "smoking room" to be used only by smokers for smoking, we used to go there on our break specifically to smoke. but now the law says that the hut is illegal and we cant use it anymore.
"'the Muslims' go there specifically to part take in the shisha."
same thing, so why should they be allowed to bypass a law that we cant or have these shisha places only got 3 walls therefore making them legal? ____________________ visit Collective Knowledge |

I assume that the reason your 'hut' was taken down was because it was near to where the public have to walk to get inside the main building, or, as in the case of my previous employee, was on a car park, so it had to be taken down. Ask your line manager if you want the specifics. And I do not drink alcohol, yet I go to pubs/clubs to 'socialize' and meet up with my friends, as there is generally a good atmosphere, and I do not want someone breathing tobacco down my throat and having smelly clothes. Here's a thought, I was born in England ergo, I am an English citizen, lived here all my life, my colour and my religious beliefs are inconsequential. My mother is Irish, is she welcome or is it just those who are not white and come from Asian countries? ____________________ Veni Vidi Vici |

"What are YOU going to do about it Cestrian" - Cortez the killer
I'm in politics, isn't that obvious? I chose not to sit and watch the country be destroyed by this rotten government, aided by the brainwashed PC brigade.
"other than try and get more recruits to your ineffectual BNP cult? " - Cortez.
Ineffectual? If the BNP are so ineffectual, why on earth do government funded organisations like Searchlight exist? And the last time I checked, the word cult usually applies to religious groups. Being head of English at a school, I would have expected you to know that.
"BNP can't even get its own people to go to their RWB event this year, can they? " - Cortez.
The RWB was a sell out. A government imposed maximum of 2500 people attended at any one time. As people left the venue, others were queuing to get in. Another 500 people attended due to others leaving, perhaps due to work commitments. So thats 3000 visitors in total.
Do yourself a favour, if your'e going to post crap like that in an attempt to 'put me down' and retain for yourself an ounce of credibility, get some help from a guy called James. |

Groan. You work in politics? I thought you were involved in the BNP. My bad.
I used 'cult' in a pejorative sense.
Just so you know for future reference:
Cult (n): great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book); especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad b : the object of such devotion c : a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion
| Quote: | News reaches us that senior officers in the BNP are having to hassle the troops to attend the annual booze-fest, the BNP’s Red, White and Blue event.
After the refusal of the former landowner to allow it to go ahead on his property (thanks in part to a massive outcry on Indymedia when it became known that the RWB and the Northern Green Gathering had shared the same space, and partly due to the fact that the landowner could make more from a couple of car boot sales than he ever could from the near-bankrupt BNP) the event was moved from its former home at Clitheroe to the field owned by BNP-waster Alan Warner at Denby in Derbyshire.
Obviously none too happy about this, the BNP membership is staying away in droves, meaning that Phil Edwards, the BNP’s liar-in-chief (spokesman) is going to have to exaggerate somewhat when reporting on the attendance figures.
The figure of ten thousand has already been suggested and appears to be the baseline upon which the success or failure of the August 4th/5th event will be judged. This seems far from likely - many BNP members despise the whole RWB thing as appealing to the very worst elements in the party, particularly after former BNP councillor and well-known football hooligan Luke Smith glassed a member of Nick Griffin’s security team in the face a couple of years back. |
And you didn't answer the question - how exactly do you define 'indigenous' in your philosophy? ____________________ SV650 - TRASHED

To be honest, much as I disagree with the law as it stands, it should be applied without prejudice. The last time I checked it wasnt a religious obligation for muslims to smoke flavoured tobacco. |

To be fair, and not really wanting to talk about someone else, I'm not sure it's skin colour our friend cestrian is interested in. Even if that is the agenda of a vast majority of the BNP.
I'll not say what I think, because as I said, I would rather not talk about someone else, not directly to themselves.

But what I find really laughable is that people can willingly subscribe to a misguided concept of national identity, which exists only in the collective consciousness of the people who live within a non-existant boundary created by the State for the sole purpose of control and containment. You NEED a passport to get out. Why is that, exactly? What? I need permission to cross a non-existent line?
Englishness? No such thing. |
I agree, and disagree. I regard myself as very English. And I am proud of that. What I hate is the misrepresentation of that by people who for some reason get to call themselves the BRITISH national party. As if they represent BRITISH people. I am British, and they certainly do not represent me.
But again, I am proud of my national identity. And even more so now I have emigrated...which may sound weird. But even though I am learning Swedish, and will integrate just fine, I will definitely be acting ENGLISH.
Just the same as immigrants to the UK...
I believe they should learn english, and attempt to fit in. But there is nowt wrong with difference.
As for boundaries/passports... I think it would be an uncontrollable anarchy without them...At least until the world playing field is levelled... |
