Stuff's worth what people are willing to pay for it. Honda's have a reputation above all other jap manufacturers of being well screwed together, built and reliable. ____________________ My Flickr |

wave is right, i bought a new 06 plate 600rr and its not great tbh.
bought it to keep the miles of the other stuff, and it looks impressive, under the skin the quality isnt in the same league of days gone by, loom is tidy and its well thought out for sure, plastics do have a certain quality feel to them, but it only took 100 miles before the clutch basket bearing started rumbling (for gods sake after 15 years can they not sort this)
I am not saying the CBR is a bad bike, but its bland to ride, it offers no soul compared to say the GSXR or ZX6, on the upside around here the GSXR seems to attract a certain mentality of rider which the honda doesnt.
For me i think honda lost the plot a bit after 1992 / 3 era, the little NC30 is built to last hence after so many hamfisted owners and crashes they are still going strong, the RVF is not quite built with the same attn to detail or quality, and believe me quality matters. the RC30 is like you wouldnt believe. it all fits well and still looks good after all these winters being ridden and all those miles and still feels far fresher and more exciting than any new 600.
Simply put, i wouldnt buy a new honda, saying that i wouldnt buy a new bike from any of the big four again. Ducati is the only brand i still feel loyal to even after the jip over the years i have had with my ageing 916. nothing like pushing a bike for a bit to make you gell with something. |

i got a '96 RVF and i wouldn't say the build is that hot. Got all fairings held together with cable ties, tail piece is falling to bits, due to the previous retards that owned it (as you gotta stretch it to take it off).
last couple of months,t.he fuel tap f*cked up, ignition wire fell off. had to replace the retifier,
f*cking thing trys to starts itself as well, as the starter relay has melted into a mush from the heat of the frame or it doesn't start !!! then i gotta take the whole f*cking tail piece off....
And i just shelled out for new fork seals and tyres...
And it overheats like a c*nt... when i pull up anywhere, she starts pissing and farting water and steam through the overflow.
i'd sell the f*cker but for it being a v4 which is getting pretty rare these days. ____________________ RD 80 (crashed, sold) RD 125 (crashed,sold), RD 350 (rebuild twice, sold) RGV 250 (sold seized). RG 500 (crashed,sold )

Ive got a CBR 600 RR and I'm shocked at the build quality. The screws are all plastic, and you can never screw them back in.
Thanks to my Ducati dealers (Red Dog) who replaced them with proper bolts and screws - even though I didn't ask for it!
I doubt Honda will retain me as a customer.... ____________________ Kawasaki ER6n -> Honda CBR600RR -> Honda VTR 1000 -> Moto Guzzi Norge 1200

Jees, how can you blame the hand fisted-ness of previous owners on a manufacturer? I've worked on all makes of bikes for years and I honestly believe that build quality is on the decline in general. If you want someone to blame, look no further than us, the consumers. If we didn't want tomorrows technology yesterday, these bikes would spend a lot longer in R&D and some of the gremlins might not surface. It's no co-incidence that there have been loads of recalls in recent years.
FWIW, my opinion is that Honda do have the best built quality, although all the manufacturers have things they do well and badly. Honda reg/recs are crap, as is their ability to write a fuelling map. Yamahas drink oil because their oil save piston rings never seem to match the bores properly. Suzuki have paint and plastic issues and Kwak are similar.
Don't judge a manufacturer by one second hand bike though, that's just stupid.
Cheers
