Well that's the only way I can describe it really.
It's been happening for a while now, not all the time just every now and then.
Usually happens when I'm in highish revs and about to or have just changed up a gear.
The bike kind of lurches forward a bit and makes a gdnnngg sound, like, as I said in the title, it's having a good old sneeze.
It just passed it's MOT in a reputable garage so it can't be life threatening, I hope.
Though it is getting rather annoying and it's been bugging me lately.
Oh and yes chain is at correct tension, lubed and engine oil is at the right level too.
If anyone can give me some help I'd be well grateful Smile.

that wouldnt be the engine being hauled back down to much lower revs by the clutch? especially at gigher revs the energy from the fast spinning engine has to go somewhere, so you get alurch, this could also be the gnnnrrrn noise? Confused

I have no idea.
It's not the grears grinding either, cause I used to do that when I first started out and remember what that sounded like Embarassed .
But if it was the clutch thing wouldn't it happen all the time?

Where's the noise coming from?

Try adjusting your clutch, at the engine and lever, and get the biting point right.

When did you last give it an oil change?

About a 1000 miles a go.
I have been topping it up though.
Going by my manual it says I should change the oil every 2500 miles.
The noise sounds like it's coming from the chain.
At first I thought it was the chain randomly jamming, but my back wheel would have been locking up right?
It also wouldn't have passed MOT if that was the case.

Could be that the fuel pipe/filter is a bit blocked, and it cant get fuel in fast enough when you're revving it up...

When you say it lurches forward, do you mean that it goes a bit faster than it normally would while its making the noise, or that it slows down when its making the noise?

Any other symptoms, problems with it atm? How long has it been doing it for?

Been doing it for about 2 months.
I'm not quite sure about the speed, though it's not slowing down when it does it.
Nothing else wrong with the bike.

you need to check your chain for tight spots and sprocket for bent and spikey teeth, it might be chain lash, it could also be back fire maybe?

Didn't think my bike could backfire Embarassed .
My dad did say there were a few tight spots on the chain when he adjusted it.
Rode the bike for a about 80 miles today and it didn't happen once, I also used proper chain lube for the first time this morning too.
Before I was just using regular oil.
Could this have any effect?

check your choke is disengaging properly as well, not sure how you will check it is mind.

If it isnt disengaging properly, once it is warm enough it stutters and lurches at high revs. or mine does. Smile

Thought i had broke it first day i had it. Reading the manual is a good idea. Smile

I don't use the choke so it can't be that.
The chain is less than a year old so no need to change it, hasn't even reached the half way mark for adjustments.
Has anyone had the sneezing problem before and did you find out what caused it?
I've ruled out the things I know not to be causing it but I'm still at a loss.

I've actually thought of something a few minutes ago.
You know on a push bike when you change gear and it sometimes clunks as the chain changes for the gear, do motorcycles work in the same way?
Maybe this is the reason, the chain just sometimes changes to the different gear not as smoothly as it should Neutral .
(I have no idea how a chain works while changing gear on a motorcycle Embarassed )

no, they change as soon as u lift or drop your foot. almost instantly, it sounds like your not changin gear fast enough and/or it was chain lash.

That does sound like me actually.
If I'm rushing my clutch work at higher speeds is foul.
Bit off topic but just noticed your sig, I've had my eye on the FZR 400's for a while as a next bike.
What's your take on it?

Lol my bike was a right claptrap when I bought it.
Valves were rock solid and quite a few very important bolts were missing, the sproket was also loose.
Has been fun poking around with it and I've learnt quite a bit.
How much did you pay for yours?

Insurance is cheap!
My insurance was £400 on the CG Confused .
There again it depends on age etc.
You wouldn't happen to know the average price range on the FZR would you?

cheap for 17 eh? well ranges from as cheap as £300 for old and busted to £2000 for new hotness. age of bike and condition play roles, plus theres 4-6 differnt model fzr400 to choose from , 1wg, 4dx, en1,en2 and the 4 3tj's.

I didn't know the FZR was still in production O_o.
Just assumed they'd stopped making it along with the 1000, read it was replaced by the R1.
Old friend of mine got his for about £800 I think and it wasn't too busted, I hope.
They common to come across?

they dont make them anymore, they where replaced with the yzf's. they are common or not depending on model, the one i have the 3EN1 is quite rare now. where as the 3tj's are really common. the uncommon ones like mine are often the cheapest and parts are hard to come by. this info helping? lol. Very Happy

Lol quite a bit actually.
Means I get to be lazy and not have to search the internet so much when I'm on the look out for an FZR (hopefully beginning of next year).

be careful with one when you get it as its gremlins might not yet be showing, my shock is dead and my clutch died last week all due to old age and not enough care, my rear wheel bearings where so gone they went rusty, you have to be careful when buying an old bike as you dont know is some prick has abused it or been nice with it. Very Happy
