Almost on the road, but I'm now stuck mulling over insurance quotes.

Now pretty much everyone I know uses Carol Nash and the only negative thing I've heard from a friend who constantly trades bikes and promptly runs into issues with rather excessive administration charges.

Unfortunately the quote I got from them wasn't all that great, with a fair bit of work on the phone I eventually got a reasonable offer, £335 with TPFT cover + the usual extras and TPO cover on other bikes which is a nice bonus as well as a £250 Excess.

Bennetts on the other hand have given me the cheapest quite by a fair margin at £245 for just TPFT + legal and pretty much nothing else but a brutal £500 Excess.

I honestly can't see myself touring europe within the year but the breakdown cover is nice. Question is, is the better service and lower excess honestly worth the £90 jump in price?

The bike is a ZZR600 for reference, just picked it up last weekend Smile

Opinions would be appreciated Thumbs Up

I'm in the process of renewing my insurance too for the ZZR600. Bennetts sent my renewal through at £331.35

Carole Nash quoted a similar price to you. Bennetts I got down to £175.50 eventually and I have just got a cheaper one through Devitt Insurance.

I got quoted £150.04 TPF&T which includes leather and helmet cover, legal assistance, 90 days European cover, and Ridng any other bike TPO.

I know who I'm going with this year (unless I find cheaper still) and it's NOT Bennetts

On the face of the original two quotes I would probably go with the Bennetts quote. At the end of the day it is £90 cheaper and the european breakdown cover is worth nothing if you are not going abroad. As for the excess well that is the gamble that you take. If you think you are going to claim within the next 12 months go for the policy with the least excess, if you have little intention of claiming (I realise it isn't easy to predict) then you might as well chance the one with the higher excess and the lower premium.

If the only thing stopping you from going with the lower quote is breakdown cover, why don't you look at separate cover?

As your not going to be touring europe then there are some pretty cheap breakdown options out there, I know the RAC have cover from about £30.

Might be worth a look.

The biggest issue is that I've heard mainly good things about Carol Nash whilst I've heard mainly bad things about Bennetts.

I wouldn't worry about their reputation too much, once you have paid your premium what are the chances of you needing to contact them again? Pretty low I'd say. I'm sure they can both be as bad as each other given their chances, just save yourself £90 and stop worrying.

Have you tried some of the insurance sites like www.gocompare.com and www.confused.com ?

They can often bring up some decent results? But here's a tip for you if you do try them, don't include your real phone number unless you want them ringing you up touting for your business.

i wouldnt reccomend bennetts...... they cancelled my policy because they say they didnt recieve my proof of no claims, when i know for a fact it was posted as soon as they asked for it. not only that, rather than asking me again, they just cancelled it, meaning i rode around with no insurance for 2 weeks Thumbs Down
give hastings direct a go, they just quoted me very happy Laughing

You wont see much difference in service between bennetts and carole nash, they are both very similar operations.

I highly recommend H & R Insurance (https://www.insurance2000.co.uk/index.asp)

They are cheap, have a decent reputation in the industry and i have used their breakdown service 3 times this year and it has been faultless every time.

Insider tip. Bennetts is a nono. Repudiated claims, FSA investigations, upheld FOS complaint levels way above average.
Computer says no...

dont waste your money with bennets, the cover and service is crap

try MCE or highway
theyre bikers and give good quotes and great service(many of the office staff were put through the cbt just to help understanding)

I dont get a commission but they are excellent

Highway are bennetts main underwriter. Their claims service is part of the problem...

Top tip ty, never heard of them before but a quicky quote over the net was quite competitive, I'll give them a bell tommorow and see what I can wrangle Thumbs Up

Interesting to hear about issues with Highway, the CN quote I got was through Highway as well.

I had to drag Highway through the courts for them to pay out a claim that my policy document said I was fully covered for, even after i sent them the document they STILL refused to pay it, with no explanation, apart from 'we dont offer this cover' (new for old under 6 months old).
The court ruled that they had misled all of their policyholders, and are still having to pay claims that they didnt intend to pay, and my solicitor and I managed to get the judgement applied retrospectively.

Oop, missed this one, confused.com gave me a few more places to try, but for the most part the quotes from there were not particularly great, I assume because of this being my first bike.

My son was with MCE, (TPFE) and one of the clauses said that the cover would cease immediately in the event of a claim Shocked

Can anyone tell me why there are companies out there called Brokers?
Aren't they meant to be able to quote you happy?

How do they stay afloat?

Admin charges and a bit more.....

A good broker will find you the best deal from all the ins co that cover your bike, not just the ones that will kick back the best %

Do you not think that the likes of moneysuperket do not get any kick backs, never mind the fact they do not cover all the players..

Not wot ah meant m8. Laughing

Monsup.com is not a broker. It just gives you links to cheap sites for brokers.

I have not used a 'broker' for years. As far as I am concerned they are all cnuts.
If you try one or two quotes online with the same company you'll sometimes get different prices for the same policy cover.
Then if you phone you get something different.
I have a drawer full of T shirts about it.

The advice is shop around. And take the cheapest that fits you.

I understand what you mean. MCE quoted me 40 quid fully comp. When the certificate turned up it had wrote in the top corner, premium £17.49. Basically they made £23 by checking details on their computer. Put differently, over 50% of the money I paid went to the brokers.
