Hi all,

I passed my CBT on Saturday and have just got myself a tidy Honda CM125 to knock car wing mirrors off with on the way to work.

Just a quick question, which I'm finding pretty odd to come to terms with:

How come the 3 points I've got on my car license apply to my bike insurance when the 7 years NCB doesn't?

This is because NCB is an insurance thing and they like to rip you off. Your car and bike license are just entitlements on your license, so any points you have count on all of your entitlements.

Your license is one thing - ie a license to use the road. The bike section of that is an entitlement, the same as a car is and a lorry is etc - Its all one license.

Your NCB is the bonus you have got while in a car, its built on the experience of driving a car. as such you have no experience you can claim for riding a bike so its not transferable mate.

You may find some places which take it into consideration though.

Hope that sort of explains it.

Only if they're insured on the same policy.
You would however have to admit to an accident, which would bring your insurance up.

I've gotten three wildly different insurance quotes from brokers - all dealing with Equity Red Star (who I have my MX-5 insured with). Going to keep the policies seperate thanks to the advice on here though.

Thanks for warm welcomes btw. Looking forward to getting my bike taxed, tested and on the black stuff! Very Happy

Yeah when I was getting quotes for my CBR my quotes ranged from £1300+ down to sub £400, and the different brokers where using only a handful of actual underwriters.

Where abouts you from anyway mate and how old you then?

Just turned 30, and living up near Leeds Hex.

Cheapest quote I got was £116 - 3rd party/fire/theft. Thats alright considering that it allows me to keep the bike outside. I haven't got a garage, so I'll have to either move or buy one of those Bikesafe insurance approved biscuit tins to keep my bike in eventually.

Still don't know how you're supposed to get off your bike once you've parked it in one ....

I had a similar problem as I don't have a garage etc - but did have a back yard and have built/building a shed thing in it.

Looed at those bike safe things etc. there is one which has a floor which pulls out and you put the bike on etc and then just push it all in (rider doesn't actually go in the box as it where).

But for what they are they are expensive. Still when you end up with a bigger sportier type bike (if thats your thing) you'll do just about anything to protect your baby.

Oh and yay, another person older than me. Laughing

Sports bikes are my thing, but I'm aiming for an SV650/Bandit/Nekid Fazer for my first proper bike in a few years.

You can't have anything nice these days! If I have to take the bugger apart every night and keep it in my spare room I will.

You mean you'd keep your bike in the house, you sad bugger.

Like anyone would ever do that. https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=13675 Laughing

You intend to keep a 125 for a couple of years, I'll be impressed if you hold out that long mate. I kept my old 125 for a year (to get the years NCB) then did my test and bought my ickle CBR. Very Happy

lol. Yeah as if!

Nice bike btw mate. Several people have said to me that I won't have my 125 for long and that I'll get frustrated with it in time.

They're probably right.

Very Happy

Yeah but Col thats because your a lazy bugger. Razz

Jon you will soon want more power etc. When I got my CBR I found the extra power really made riding more enjoyable - the fact I didn't have to work as hard to get to 70mph etc. (ie only had to change in to second gear to get 70mph instead of 6th Laughing ).

Guess I'm lazy as well then. Laughing

Nah, I do like my NSR. i like being able to thrash it everywhere yet not do silly speeds. I just don't like how unreliable its been lately.

That was the bit I liked about my NS, the only problem really came if I wanted to go a long distance on it (didn't trust it - thus very few visits to the wheel etc) and also when I needed the extra power it wasn't there. Sad
