Hi all

I have just purchased a 2007 Honda CBR600RR7 and am getting quotes well above anything ive been quoted on a new Yamaha R6.

I spoke to the insurance company about this and a guy said its because insurance companies love to insure Yamahas Confused

I would have thought it was the other way round.

Anyone know anything about this?

Cheers Smile

Thats bull shit about them perferring to insuring Yams! They aren't bothered what they insure as long as their getting the cash!

Have you tried a few places? Try bikeinsure.co.uk or ebike is liked on here, MCE? Thumbs Up

Agree - I can't see why insurance would be any different on what are essentially two similar bikes performance-wise (and nickability-wise Sad ). Yes, this is cynical, but I agree with yzf750r in that as long as they've got your money, they don't really care.

The only variable I can see would be the insurance company themselves (not the broker) and their different criteria. I've had some wildly differing quotes before now - for the same bike.

Have you tried Carole Nash or Hastings? My recommendation is to get Ride or Bike and go through some of the insurance companies listed in the back.

Hi

Yamaha have made a play in the past about reducing spares prices. Honda spares prices have generally been on the high side of extortionate. This would affect the premium, but normally would be reflected in the insurance grouping of the bikes.

All the best

thebikeinsurer.co.uk
MCdirect
confused.com
moneysupermarket

etc.

Yamaha might be cheeper to insure as they do there own insurance at stupidly low prices, so maybe thats forced the other brokers to reduce there prices to try and stay competitive?

OR

they are just bluffing , ie if you tried to insure a Yam they'd said we love to insure Hondas,

I remember back in the 90s when loads of people were scared of UK beef, people would come in and ask where beef was sourced from you say EU they say no I only want UK beef , you say UK they say nah don't eat UK beef, ah the joys of catering , not...

www.falcon-bikes.co.uk - Pinder Dhaliwell is the owner, top guy.
Small firm but excellent cheap rates and a great service.

Thumbs Up

P.s I DONT work for them or have anything to do with the business. I popped in oneday after work and got talking to them.

R6 is a group 14 if before an 04 reg and the cbr6 is a group 15, hondas hold their value better and parts are more expensive.

Hence any insurer worth their salt would rather insure the bike that is cheaper to repair.

tis funny was playingabout with quotes for a ZX10R , and some of them come incredibly close to the cost of insuring the CBR600 , 2008 maybe a ZX10R year after all.
