bike is in the shop now with some sort of fault but thought id see if you guys could think of the cause so i can see if the shop can think of all causes.

the bike is a kymco zing 125. it has had 2 new batteries the first one put in this morning, fully charged. the problem is that the indicators either flash really fast when riding or when stopped and brake is applied they stop flashing until either the brake is released or the revs are increased. also the horn doesnt work it appears there isnt enough power getting to the horn as it does one pathetic sound then stops working.

anyone think of a cause?

cheers

aha, your bike produces a ac (alternating current) from the alternator/generator its usually around of 50v, the rectifier/regulator
changes the said ac voltage of around 50v to a dc (direct current) voltage of about 12-15v
the battery stores the voltage and smoothes off the excess peaks and troughs from the ac-dc conversion.

if your reg isnt woring correctly then obviously you could be getting spikes of voltage of 50 or so volts.
resulting in blowing bulbs and possibly stuffing your cdi in the long run.

there are plenty of articles on the web of how regulator/rectifiers work,
which, no doubt will be clearer than my explanation.
good luck Thumbs Up

Bad Negative connection between frame and Negative battery post. has same effect as it 'regulates' power to some extent. In a way.
Electrics (like girls) are not always simple.
Most of it is hardware and energy transfer the remainder is magic which even electricians don't fully comprehend. Razz
They'll only ever master this 'Black Art' in an effort to baffle mechanics and laypersons. (Supervisors too.) Cool

I hope this helps you. Karma
