I was behind a line of traffic on my ZX6-r, i spotted a blue Skyline R34 two cars ahead of me with a dustbin exhaust, hah i thought!!

I thought wrong.

When we reached a straight road it was me behind the Skyline, and a car infront of him. Of course being a gentleman i let the Skyline go past first, with the full intention of overtaking the Skyline soon afterwards.

I heard a pop, and saw fire shooting from his exhaust; the car then accelerated at such a pace that i had to drop down 2 gears into 2nd at 40mph, and it still was not enough. I gave chase, and we proceeded to travel the next 2 miles at what i would call anti social speeds with me just keeping up whilst using all of the revs in every gear on the straights.

We pulled up at the traffic lights, and he gave me the thumbs up through his window, i went alongside him to ask what the bloody hell he had in there, he said it was tuned to 570bhp.

Thing is, we all know that the average 600cc bike is pushing 600bhp per ton + so i had expected to fare much better, i did keep up don`t get me wrong, but i didnt feel in any danger of passing him Smile ; i suppose the benefit of 4WD and endless traction defies the figures.

Just thought iwould share my first experience with a car that was as fast as my bike, and what a car.

p.s Don`t speed kids, I`m not normally very excessive, but i suppose i let the endorphines get ahold of me.

But the fact is that you kept up with him on your 0.6 litre bike, while his car is probably a 2 litre plus.

You could buy a fleet of 636's for the price of his car!

Had the same thing with an EVO something or other....it had all the mud gaurds and words ont he back, no idea what it meant, but i soon found out it went like shit off a shovel.
I was nailing my 7R in 2nd and 3rd, granted i think if i held the joy bar back long enough i could pass him but not without it being highly dangerous.
Bloody quick car.
I've seen an R32 nail it from the lights and the force of drive made it take off sideways before tearing down the road. Cool Thumbs Up

Its interesting that you are shocked that the skyline is quick. They can be tuned to 1000bhp. Around a twisty road, the skyline would leave you for dead if correctly driven, as cars can corner faster than bikes.

I'm not so sure in a straight line, but a 1000bhp one would certainly give you a run for your money. They are nice and very quick cars.

Shame they cost so much and need the tits tuning off of them to make them go.

I only have a ZX4R, but its suprising the amount of cars that try and race me just because its a sports bike. Something I have noticed is I get used to destroying chav/boy racers in there crappy litre Corsas and Clio's off the line or open road. When it comes to racing a car that can hold its own, its not that I cant beat it I just expect it to happen much quicker Laughing.

I reckon that it's safe to say that most 600's can match tuned jap imports of up to say 400bhp. It's all well and good that we can launch at lights against 911's and ferraris, but how many of these wideboys actually give it the beans on the country roads? Very few i've seen - in fact most 911/carreras are driven with couples or a family in the 2+2 seating, so the true sleepers are the skylines and LanEvos.

A good friend of mine has a skyline R32 model and it's really quick. My friends think that I could keep up with him or even outrun him on my Hornet if it wasn't restricted. He hasn't got it tuned or anything.

Tbh I'm not too sure if I could but he said it' has roughly around the 300 mark or lower. Can't remember though. I'll ask him when I see him.

Oh and having a nice fast car like that and being an awesome guitarist in a good band doesn't mean he gets good looking girls, as his "bird" is quite minging and annoying. And we all agree on that but never talk to him about it Laughing

Whereas my girlfriend is very pretty indeed and isn't annoying in the slightest (Thank god)

thats because bikes are better for pulling than cars!

once they find out it isnt a ped or a 125 Very Happy

EVERYONE has a car, you dont meet that many bikers in normal life.

Had a race with an EVO last year, the guy ran a red light and stopped about 10 yds in front of me baiting me for a race. i didn't move till the lights went green and then he gave it full whack from a stop. he obviously thought his car was quick Laughing a few secs after i passed him i looked back and gave him a wave and kept the throttle pinned up to some crazy speed. at the next set of lights i was waiting for him so i could ridicule him but he a did a u-turn just before he came close Laughing Laughing OWNED!

I've had a few blats with jap cars but none of them have been able to compete

There are some very fast Jap sports cars around that will see off alot of 'fast' bikes.

Never under-estimate the speed of Supra's / Skyline's etc.., they are rapid machine's when modified, I know, I have one! Wink

My Supra will easliy out run a ZX6 (and has) from a rolling start. I've had a run in with an R1 in the past too, that was fun, 170+ and very little in it either way.

Thumbs Up

best sleeper car ive seen is a vauxhall nova....

with a 2.0 litre supercharged engine and everything removed inside the car.

this thing thrashed everything at the lights, sadly it went sideways into a lampost and got ripped in half.

The best thing about it was that everything was standard except the tyres so nobody expected it to be fast (not that people expect a modified nova is fast)

You lose quite alot of power through transmission loss with 4WD AFAIK? And that might only be at the fly he was quoting?

Although I'd say that must be at the wheels for your '6 to be unable to overtake. Smile

And thats the reason I want a skyline. Cool

Just to have a car on the side thats fun and fast. Thumbs Up

Fastest jap car I have raced around here is a turbo civic pushing a stupid amount of hp it was over 400.

When he nailed the throttle the car would skip like two lanes cause of torque steer. Laughing

Every skyline I came across in the UK wouldn't race Crying or Very sad

remember aero dynamics as well, the cars shape never changes, so can be put into a wind tunnel and tuned to as close to perfection as the owner / manufacturer wants.

A bike has someone sat on top of it. Bike may be faired and aerodynamic, but the guy sat on it isnt neccessarily. Smile

As a bike is a lot lighter, the riders weight will heavily effect the speed of the bike.

Get a hefty chap on a 125 and you can double its weight.

Get a hefty chap in a car and it is a fraction.

Just to add i am not calling u a lard arse, or accusing you of having a 125. Smile

Love skylines, wish i could afford to run one, although a couple weeks ago on the way home, i saw one that had "left" the road and was smashed up just after a junction where 2 lane traffic becomes one. Part of me thought what a shame, the other part chuckled as the driver and the 3 dozen people stood around it looked like your typical members of blazing squad.

It is also 'fact' that if it was raining he would be dry.

I hate it as soon as a car beats or keeps up with a bike, bikers always jump straight on the. "yeah well his cost more" blah blah.

seriously who cares?

The average modern 600 is probably putting around 100 to the back wheel, and with rider will weigh 250~kgs, thats around 400bhp per ton. Add the fact bikes have shit aerodynamics (worse than a transit as i remember) and hardly any torque. Its no surprise a tuned skyline could keep up with one.

Used to know someone who tuned cars for a living
They had done a Mitsubishi Evolution.

When he took it to various track day meet things as an advert it literally cost him at least half a tank of petrol at each service station down the M6. Was a bit thirsty. Wouldnt let me have a go though for some strange reason.. Smile

To be fair they dont even cost that much either. 400bhp R32s go for under 8K on ebay.
