well, MOT 10am tomorrow, putting my mechanical and electrical skills to the test when i get the ultimate budget bike tested.

grand total spent: £290

https://aycu26.webshots.com/image/27265/2002408643846422656_rs.jpg

the only thing i think it may fuck up on is the zorst as it says 'competition use only' on it, but ive got a cunning sticker there.

another possibility is the left fork seal as i went for a blast and saw some oil there. ill give it a wipe before it goes in.

anyone have any idea how long an MOT takes roughly?

cheers queers xxx

Roughly 30 minutes although I've had them from 10-45 minutes.
I think the new system means that they should take a certain amount of time which means the guy seems to be wandering aimlessly for a fair bit of the time.

Some forks do this as fluid is moved around the internal valves.

cheers G, so theyre not going to fail it for weird noise?

its odd though, ive never noticed the noise before...

what exactly do they do when theyre checking the forks and rear shock?

Think they'll be checking straightness, any free play, suitable damping/spring and of course oil leaks Smile.

once again, cheers Very Happy

is that just a case of sit on it front brake on and rock?
because other than the very minor leak thats only apparant after serious abuse it dampens just fine.

That looks like what my bike would look like if it had suffered from prolonged starvation!

You can also remove the retaining clip and smear RTV siliconce sealer all over then put the retaining clip back. Wait for a few hours till it sets and your fork seals are good as new.

Is that a long term fix?

nope. RTV gets corroded by fork oil and slowly turns it into a big sticky orange mess.

well, it was a fail...
but by no fault of the work i did to it Very Happy

the forks i fluked a bit because i wiped them beforehand and he said 'hmm, theres fork oil down here, have you done the seals? because theres none at the top', so i said 'mmm...yeah?' and the shocks and forks passed Very Happy

it failed on a broken brake lever and 2 split tyres.

the others were badly aligned headlights (i think theyre the wrong way round, so ill sort it)

and i need to putty my blowing exhaust.

2 weeks for that i reckon, and its going to feel like an eternity as im currently bikeless until i can get the money.

cheers Very Happy
the bike itsself was £200, and about £90 for parts...

its loads more now Sad
just shelled out £146.03 on a new set of tyres, brake lever and exhaust putty, so that brings the total to like £340 or something (didnt bother working it out, so dont be all knowitally if i got it wrong).

so yeah. im dropping it back after college tomorrow.

the only thing thats a little bit worrying at the moment is idling in traffic...

its fine when cold, but when its warm/hot it doesnt like to idle at anything much below 2000rpm, im guessing its tappets/valve spacings... anyone agree?

cheers queers xxx

Older bikes that are air or oil cooled can be kinda hard to get to idle, if you set it low it struggled to idle when cold, if you raise it to compensate, it idles very high when warm, its a matter of finding the happy medium.
