Piaggio moped question

My sons piaggio 50 cc moped headlight, only seems powerful when the bike is being revved. When its idling the light virtually vanishes.

Is this a wiring or battery problem or just a moped problem in general

He will be doing a lot of riding in the dark soon so i'd like to sort the problem out.

Battery problem.

Mine's going batteryless after the MOT so I've just turned the idle up - not as bright as I would like, but it'll do.

moped lights run off the engine dont they?

disconnect the battery with the bike running. if the lights go out you need a new battery, if they dont they run off the engine and thats how they should be.

Its not a problem, sounds most like a NRG as they are the worst for it...

Likes been said they are running AC current direct from the engine, hence no lights with the ignition on, only when its running... The higher the engine rpm the more voltage is produced so the brighter the lights... think of it like the old dynamos on push bikes As long as the lights are ok once the revs are increased a touch its all fine as when he is using it the revs will never be low.

There is no problem, for some reason all Piaggio moped do that, not sure about the other manufacturers.
