ok, i just put a different shock on my fzr, it drops like 20mm so thats good, but theres a horrid squeek coming from the bike, it also rises gradually not straight away, i'm thinking maybe swing arm bearings causing this?

any ideas?
cheers, ben. Very Happy

If it didn't squeak before changing the shock, I would take a guess that it's your shock that's squeaking. It sounds like it needs adjusting. Suspension is not my strong point, so I'm not going to make myself look like an idiot trying to tell you what to do Laughing ...there are lots of bods on this board who are very knowledgeable on these things and will be able to help you.

Then yeah, it could be the swingarm bearings - or it could well be the swingarm pivot.

My ex's bike (T509) suffered a similar thing, the shock was fine, but the rear end was a right old bone shaker. He was talking about getting the swingarm drilled and a grease nipple fitted, as there was no other way of maintaining it apart from taking the rear end apart.

possibly the pivot bearings have died and rusted like my rear wheel bearings did, causing a squeek from friction?
anyone else agree?

Push down on it while off the bike - how long does it take to return to it's original position?

Is it adjustable?
It's possible the rebound damping is turned up far too high and the squeaking you are hearing is oil being forced to this.

Or the spring could be a bit knackered, of course.

hmm, its possible, the springs on the second notch, and re rebound is on god knows what lol, i'll try turning it down, thats if it works, so the squeeking is definatly coming from both shocks? the old one and the new one?

Oops, didn't see that it squeaked before, my bad.
It's possible, but with that more likely a bearing or bushing is knackered.

When you had it off would have been an ideal time to have a poke around, but too late now.

If you can get hold of a mechanics stethoscope, it'd make it a bit easier to diagnose which bit is squeaking, if it's not obvious otherwise.

thanks G, i'd say its deffo a seize/ ready to seize bearing in the swing arm area, maybe the bush that hold the botom join on thats connected to the dogbones and shock?

There's a lot of possible things it could be.
I've also seen plenty of cases where people have heard a terminal-sounding rattle or squeak for it to turn out to be a loose nut or cable, etc.

However does sound like something around there. Ideally, get the shock out again and move bits until you find which one creaks Smile.
