Pinking (if thats how you spell it!)

Bike went in for its 8000 mile service and when I got it back its now pinking.

Idling it goes pink pink pink. (Thats probably not how you spell it I know)

Any ideas? It didnt do it before it so I am not sure what they have done!

I doubt its pinking.

Its probably a loose mechanical noise from summat that needs tightening.

Usual causes are the timing being too far advanced, the compression is too high for the grade of fuel being used or the mixture is very weak.

At least that's what's usually the matter when a car engine is pinking. However the pinking is usually worst not at idle, but when the engine is under load.

As bish says, it's likely to be something else.

As above. Pinking will be most noticable under load, and I suspect the ignition timing on a Hornet will be a long way from being that critical on fuel used.

Already rang em and said its making a noise sounds like pinking. But tbh they will have forgot by next week.

Running down next Sat so they can have a look. Hopefully it wont take long to fix. As I have only just got back on the road I wanna ride not sit in garages again!

turn the mixture screws on the carbs, but if they did it wrong go back and tell them to fix it propper, their fault.

If the motor was pinking it would be running pretty roughly. If its running ok its 99% likely to NOT be pinking.

IMO she wasnt running right. I accelerated fast up the link road and she didnt seem as fast as she normally was. Normally 70 appears in a second but it seemed to take ages to get there

Could be me of course with being off the bike for a while

Well let me tell you now, nothing on that bike during a normal 8000 mile service will have caused your engine to detonate. Firstly id check the fuel you are using.

Could this be the cam chain tensioner? Its not pinking me dad says. Could it be this thing?

Are you sure it's not the legendary Honda CCT?

Does the problem go away when the engine is warm?

Were the valves checked/ adjusted at the service?

If so there is a chance (if the cams had to come out) that the mechanic has the cam timing out by a tooth, sounds likely if your bike is down on power and running rough.

Might be worth checking your plugs are in tight too, be sure to make sure they are not loose or been cross threaded and that they are the right heat grade..

The guy took the plugs out checked them and said i didnt need new ones so possibly didnt stick them back in right.

Valves possibly not sure?

When I get a spare minute I will take her back the garage and get her looked at.
