As the title says really....
I was going to start this the other week after Stinks, Swords, thread which was very interesting.
I'm not sure about all the technicalities of most guns, but i know what i like from either films, games or documentarys.
The Luger
An awesome pistol, just for the history really.
In service since the early 1900 i think, and apparently able to be used (if well maintained) for 100 years! lol
And if you really need to kill things.....
The artillery Luger
Or Red 9, if your a resident evil fan
The M16
What an ace weapon, an old skool design, accurate, reliable, lightweight and with a grenade attachment has to be one of the best rifles of all time. I am of course talking about any game with it in, or film.
Sounds nasty to
You've got a building with multiple enimies inside, your pissed, you need.....
The Uzi
"The best thing to come out of Israel since Jesus"
If you have any interesting facts or stories about the above guns, go for it...i only know what i know through books and stuff.
I have my personal favs, these above are wicked....i like the MP5 for the usage, the M60 (belt fed i think) for the damage, desert eagle for the stupidity factor....and not forgetting the mini gun. ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

The Barrett for the combination of accuracy and stopping power.
The XM8 for some futuristic development
...but IMO the "computer room" scene in Rambo, where he uses the M60 single handed has got to be one of the best gun scenes in Hollywood

Okay your a pleb. Sorry to say but it is true. . The M16 is accurate i admit. But! Hell no is it reliable! The mechanisms inside it are very complicated, and as soon as you get dust in it or it jams, you'll be spending alot of alone time with it. .
Best guns of all time in my opinion.
The Ak47!
Nice retro gun. Extremely powerful, not to accurate and it looks awesome.
The RPK
Just amazing... The LMG form of the AK, looks mint, 600 round/min plus I like it on Battlefield 2 .
The SA80(L85A1)
Don't have to say a thing about this gun its that good. (Psst it's ultra-awesome!)
The L86 LSW.
LSW (Light support weapon) form of the L85A1, again nothing else to because it's a form of the L85.
Last but not least...
The L96 and any other forms of this gun.

Maschinengewehr 42, or MG42. 1200 rounds per minute and one of the best looking guns ever made. One day I will have one, it's just a shame that they are going for around £800 at the minute.

Bugger, forgot the Sturmgewehr 44 (MP44, StG44). The worlds first Assault Rifle and the basis for the AK47.

Definately among my favourites, and probly the first gun i learnt to recognise the shape of, says a lot about its worldwide reputation, your mum probly knows what an AK47 is.
Honourable mention to the FAMAS, it looks so damn cool that when I first came across it, all those years ago just after the release of Metal Gear Solid, i actually thought it was fictional This is maybe what the SA80 should have been, but I'm a big fan of our attempt all the same.
Another favourite would be the M14, I have always liked the M1 Garand, and the idea of a perfectly engineered version, is something of interest, just a shame it took them so long to get round to sorting it out, that it was out of date before it even came to fruition. If I ever get round to buying myself an Airsoft rifle, it will probably be an M14.
If I wanted a gun to hang on my wall, then it would probably be a SMLE Lee Enfield, from ye olde days, as I think they are particularly nicely put together.
Final mention to the old Sterling L2A3, with the option of a silenced version. A proper British stiff upper lip SMG, that looked like it would be far too easy to jam your fingers in every possible part of it. Very business-like look about it.
Apparently was kept in use until the early 90's!

The L85A1 is utter pish. I defy you to pick one up, attach a 30 round clip to it and fire the whole thing on semi-auto without a stoppage. They are overly complex and fragile for an infantry weapon and were made on the cheap. I believe the A2 is improved somewhat.
The LSW is more of the same but is doubly pish because it doesn't carry out the role it was designed for. It is supposed to be a platoon level heavy support weapon. Overwhelming supressing fire with a 30 round clip of 5.56mm? Do me a favour. You want someone to keep their head down, get yourself a GPMG that the LSW was supposed to replace and start spraying overlapping fields of 7.62 on a fixed traverse. Getting too hot? Change the barrel and keep at it.
So my first pick is the GPMG because it does exactly what it says on the tin. With 300 rounds. LOAD. Make ready. 600 yards, automatic fire, at the area to your front... In your own time... carry on.

For a design oddity, the FN PS90.

Target/sniper rifle? Druganov SVD. Refined AK47 firing mechanism, decent barrel, 10 shot semi-auto and 7.62mm.

I have worked all over the uncivilised world, mostly Africa and the Middle East. During my time in these holes I have had to carry various weapons, M16, South African Uzi copie, AK47, various 9mm pistols and other stuff,
I hate guns, I have seen what they do to people, no glamour in them at all. They are made for one reason alone, ripping people to shreds and that aint nice. ____________________ Bikers make great organ donors, get 115 on your licence today. |

Ahhh, this thread is a good place to ask. Can someone explain to me the general male obsession with guns? I don't get it! My BF will happily sit and watch stuff like 'Future Weapons' on Discovery or whatever, whereas I just don't see the appeal. I know they're ingeniously made.... but they're made to inflict pain and death.
I went through a phase when I was a 1st-2nd year film student when I thought guns were cool (which is unusual for a girl!) but I grew out of that pretty quickly, plus I think some of the appeal was that let's face it, I was a student film maker! Tarantino!
I'm with 1930 Ariel (though with no 1st hand experience), I just don't get the huge appeal. Can someone enlighten me? ____________________ "The problem with the French is they have no word for 'entrepreneur' " George W Bush

I wish I knew.
I just like them cos some of them are pretty.
Dunno about the technical stuff at all.
Bit like bikes really, only I've ridden plenty of bikes, but never shot a gun (except a paintball thing at the London Soldier weekend last year)
They're just ... "interesting" - like great white sharks, or snakes: deadly, but fascinating nonetheless. ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |
