You can wack a cable tie in your throttle assembly to give yourself a bodged quick action throttle.

Basically take your throttle assembly apart and remover the cables. Cut a cable tie about 3 inches from the bottom and stick it with superglue to below where the throttle cable sits as seen in the picture.

Put it all back togethere and bob's your uncle Cool

completely agree mark.

a lot of people fork out 25 quid+ just for a small red piece of plastic that does exactly the same job. Thumbs Up

sometimes the cable will need adjusting, or the throttle tube that goes into the twist grip will need cutting down.

i dont understand what u have done. can u explain ?

oh i think i get it

u are making the radius of the bit that the throttle cable wraps around bigger

so a smaller rotation produces a bigger pull on the cable

very clever

i might try this as im not good at twisting full closed to full open

Difficult isn't it - Should get a 98 R1 then as I've heard 'The slightest twist of the throttle alters the speed as required'. Who would have thought it?

yeah a quick action throttle may give more of a feeling of power, as the slightest twist has more effect, the way it is with a more poerful bike

This is an issue I and plenty of racers much better than me have.

Fine taking it easy, but if you're trying to properly push it, you have to keep adjusting your hand position to go from off while braking to wide open throttle.

I thought you didn't need to since you tightened the throttle cable to raise the idle?

Are you trying to tell us you're limp wristed? Wink

I have this problem when riding mopeds. You need full throttle to go anywhere so it can get tiring adjusting your hand all the time.

The differance between quick action and none is great, i seem to have more control over quick action as I'm not having to adjust my hand or arm position all the time, it really does allow you to get the most out of your bike with minimal effort.

Definitely doing that when i sort out my throttle at crimbo
remind me please sugar...

unless i do it now Twisted Evil

Ooooh thats cunning....

Hehehehe

Anyone care to explain it in very simple slow steps for a man whos never bothered to take apart his throttle before how this works.
I think i get it, im just not 100%

Cable tie is providing a non grippy surface for the cable to slide over, whilst at the same time increasing the radius of the throttle tubing thus forcing the cable to go a further distance. Surely with such a thin piece of cable tie you'd barely notice the difference... Neutral

Doesn't need to be 'non grippy', the cable will always be in the same place in relation to a specifc part of the tube. Well, unless it was grippy like glue as it will get pulled away from the surface.

You are just increasing the diameter, so that turning the throttle say 10 degrees will increase the distance travelled by say 1mm, meaning the throttle is opened more.

To get the sort of effect I was wanting on my 675, I had to layer up the cable ties three high. Unfortunately this didn't quite fit in, so I had to then cut it down opposite where the cable ends locate to make it fit.
Technically this probably gave me a non-linear throttle which was faster through small openings but more precise at high openings. That may actually be the opposite of what you want, but it was the best I could do.

As above, you can layer the cable ties up - just one definitely didn't have the effect I was wanting.

However, for £7 I'd be tempted to go for one (well, would have been if they sold one for my bike) - then when it all goes wrong and the throttle cable gets caught, you can sue them Razz.

I didn't have enough zip ties to make use of, but while browsing another forum I stumbled across a solution - PVC pipe! Just cut the right width and make it into a rounded 'U' shape. Thumbs Up

Surely that means the cable doesn't fit in the 'groove'? Can't it just slip off?
