 |
|
Hi, i have a '99 zx6r, and Im pretty sure I need to check the valve clearances and I know that some of em will need doing at least (Ive gone a fair bit past the service interval)
Ive never had to do them before, and understand it is a very technical job to do. I dont wish to do it myself, or I wouldnt post this, cos I found a guide on the net.
I was wondering though, cos Im too lazy to look past one page of google results
How expensive would it be to get the valves done by a professional? Or a workshop at least.
Im in Hull, in N.E England, if that makes a difference.
Has anyone had em done properly? (not implying anyone cant do it themselves properly, but Im kinda limited in what I can do on the bike, Im not uber adept, but can do almost all my other maintenance - but dont fancy doing this!) ____________________ "Oh....it looks like Average Joe's is forfeiting the match!" - "Yeah, its a risky strategy but lets see if it pays off for 'em Cotton." |

checking the clearances it self i easy,
changing the bloody shims is a pain in the bloody arse (can you tell ive done it before)
there is a good video for a gs500 about, which will give you a basic guide, (bear in mind, a gs has 4 valves and you will have 16 of the beggers to check)
here is the gs500 video which is a good indication ____________________ the humans are dead

I hate bucket and shims
My 1500 trike has hydraulic tappets - brilliant but then Honda decide to revert to shims for the 1800 and mine are now due.

What are the mechanical signs it needs doing... ?
I think my bike is knocking on for 40k and im not sure the old girls had it done before i owned her so it would make sense, but i dont get to use my bike much so when i do get back carting her off to a garage for a week plus is not really a fun option (unless its a white crimbo). ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...
From September 2014 to January/February 2015 I will not be using any English, nor reading any. As such, I won't be on here. PM at will, but I won't be checking/posting unless in emergencies. Certainly not for the first couple of months. Please berate me savagely if I break that rule... |

My FZR has just gone into the garage for Valve clearances, carb balance and a new rear tyre.
So that'll hit my Christmas drinking fund hard
They haven't got back to me with a price yet but I'll have to see how it compares with the ones suggested on here... ____________________ Yamaha FZR400RR 3tj
