2 PCSO's stood by as a 10 year old boy drowned in 6foot of water. The police have defended their lack of action because "They were not trained to deal with the situation"

This begs the question what are they trained for? or in other words what fucking use are they!

Zilch they are pretend police, they walk around with a huge police sticker on their day glo jackets with tiny letters under neath saying CSO,

they are supposed to make people feel as if there are more police on the beat ,

Infact I remember back in the 90s around 94-95>? when police instead of using real police landrover they stuck cardboard cut outs of police landrovers at the side of the road and moved them about every few days, same principle.

But this also has the 'benefit' of a job creation scheme dressed up as more police

To me, it matters not that they were PCSO's but they were members of the community and they stood by as a human being, a kid an all, drowned. If they couldn't swim then perhaps I might not be so pissed. It says they didn't see the kid but surely they would have beleived the situation that was unfolding infront of them Thumbs Down I hope they sleep well at night.

I kind of understand what your saying but I think that the fact they are PCSO's does make things worse, the community are supposed to be able to turn to the police in times of need, for protection, for help, for support. To have a member of he police force (albeit a PCSO) turn round and say "Im not trained for this, your on your own" is certainly a kick in the teeth for Joe Public.

These people applied for a job knowing that they might be put in harms way, they took payment for the job and yet when it came down to it they turned their backs on the community they are there to support.

The fact that they are PCSO's is barely relevant

What human being wouldn't jump in to save someone drowning? That just defies belief!

Why are people so reluctant to just fucking do something now? Wonder if they needed training to get dressed in the fucking morning?

I can see what your saying and yes Id be pretty pissed if I saw that.
But AFAIK for instance the fireservice cannot touch water without a life jacket. Its against the rules - Maybe this applies to the police.
But then again, its down to the individual.
In my case I would of jumped in to help regardless.

No I wouldnt Toby im just stating what I know.
They were both in the wrong for not helping and should be named and should of shown up in court to give there reasoning why they didnt act apon it.

Just read the BBC news site which mentions
Quote:
PCSOs are not trained to deal with major incidents such as this.

Which I think is disgusting - Its simple life saving skills.

Maybe, but what is the likely hood of both not being able to swim.
Besides surely that would of been brought up already being this happened back in May?

Not trained to jump in and save a life? What a pair of wankers. I hope that boy haunts them for the rest of their useless, spineless lives.

I just don't get PCSO's. What use were they in that situation? If there had been two passing 'little bit waaaaay, little bit woooo' white van men passing, you can fucking guarantee at least one of them would have gone in to help. A criminal would have been more use on that scene.

Like them or not, Coppers have got BALLS, PCSO's have got nothing but an eye on their payslip. This shows they don't give a fuck about the communities they are supposedly helping. I find myself completely fucking outraged again. What a pair of cunts.

I agree with all that is said here PCSOs are a waste of time they have no more authority than a security officer and guess what security officers have no more authority than a member of the public!

In Coventry they are known as Plastic Police

as for training I'm sure the POLICE officer that arrived on scene was not trained to remove his stab vest and jump straight in to pull the lad out He just did because that is what needed doing

Such a sad situation and yes I hope the PCSOs involved can sleep at night not! and well done to the PC that went in shame he was too late

"The alarm was raised and the PCSOs arrived on the scene. Police said they could see no sign of Jordon in the water, so they radioed trained officers for help. "

If im wrong then Crying or Very sad

In the interests of fairness, the child was not visible when the PCSO's attended

"Anglers managed to pull Bethany out but Jordon was out of sight before they could get to him.

The alarm was raised and the PCSOs arrived on the scene. Police said they could see no sign of Jordon in the water, so they radioed trained officers for help. "

I read that as the anglers went in after the girl-recovered her, The boy was under before the anglers could get to them. They raised the alarm, and an "officer" was on the scene in 5 minutes (which means that the boy was under water for 5 minutes- brain dead at this stage).

The step father said "Mr Ganderton told the inquest: "I don't know why they didn't go in. I can't understand it.

"If I had been walking along a canal and seen a child drowning I would have jumped in. " The point is, however, that the PCSOs were not walking along the canal and "stood by as a 10-year old boy drowned", as the post title would suggest.

I would deffo question why the 999 operative (I presume that 999 was called?) called for a PCSO...why not Fire Brigade and ambulance.

having said that, I guess that this post will turn into a FTP thread tho...

<edit> Please note that I DO NOT support PCSOs in any fashion....they are a cheap manipulative trick perpetrated by the Government to pretend that there are more Plod on the beat. In my view, only sad w*nkers that are not good enough to be proper Plod would volunteer to be a PCSO

To be honest, Whether or not he was alive when they were alerted to the matter they should have gone in and pulled him out. There's every chance he would be dead after 5 mins, There's nothing to say trying wouldn't have been of any benefit.

They would say that would they not? , cops have a habit of closing ranks and covering each others mistakes, there was this Brazilian guy in London once who got shot. Interestingly enough the record / transcript of the event was altered after the story changed...

first he was a terrorist wearing a jacket with wires coming out of it, then he vaulted over a ticket barrier then was about to detonate his bomb....turned out to be complete fabrication and more like a summary execution.

EDIT

Remember , we always have to take what police say in bad faith, sort of like politicians,

A fair point, however the initial statement from the police was that "PCSO's are not trained to deal with this kind of situation" and not "When the PCSO's arrived on the scene the child had been underwater for at least 5 minutes, in a situation like that standard protocol is not to endanger anyone else and wait for an underwater search team.

It seems that the spin has started after the public made it clear that they are not happy with the situation.

Its not like we expect them to deal with a crashed lorry carrying nuclear weapons, it was a child in a pond. A situation that probably fairly basic in the grand scheme of things.

If each one of these PCSO's equals 1 less "bobby on the beat" then if they are not trained to deal with this, then we are in real trouble.

Itchy,

Stop refering to them as the fucking police. They ain't.

I am and I have pulled people out of the river on more than one occasion and so have my collegues (police), some came out dead, some alive.

Gadfium,

Do you really think the 999 call taker thought it best to send some CSO's? A job like that comes in and the police, fire and ambulance will all go. Jobs like that come over the police radio and anyone who is near by would attend. We don't just sit round and think "It's ok, a CSO is going".

And another thing, when I joined the police 9 years ago we all had to do a life saving course and we could not pass out from training school if we failed.

Now there is no lifesaving, training is in force, and the physical tests to get in are a joke.
If the police did get there odds are they would not have been 'trained'.

Playing devil's advocate here...

I've seen an accident where everyone stood around and watched. They didn't react and they certainly didn't help. Whether it was through fear, confusion etc I can't say. What I can probably vouch for is that almost all of them, beforehand, would have claimed that they would react and help in such a situation.
