Its funny how things play on your mind and the same bad luck seems to follow from one bike to another, or is it just me?
Walking to the bike, putting the key in and pressing the button had always left me with butterflies as will it start or wont it start?
The ZX rumbled into life after being out in the rain overnight rather than roaring on the push of the button. It turned easily, if not a little lack luster. I had only been on very short trips, lights on and ignition on and off again to test this whole starting when hot thing.
Would a trickle charger be any good, even if the bikes charging system is up to scratch?
Are there any detrimental effects of constantly charging a system?
I know that many people have bought ones from Aldi when in stock, but what ones do you use / or would consider? ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

i have an oxford optimiser, but only use it if my bike is going to be unused for a week or two, last winter when the bike was laid up for long periods the charger was connected at all times and my battery was always fully charged and suffered no ill effects.

your battery is being charged permanently when you are riding it,
a trickle charger is sweet, and will do no harm, ive never had the need, the zxr is easy enough to bump start,
to check if your charging system is working (this is not recomended by every one, but i've done it to my zxr, although i wouldn't do it to a fi bike) when the bike is running disconnect one of the leads fromn the battery, if the bike dies something is wrong with your charging circuit,
if not then chances are its sweet
still not sorted the bike then?? ____________________ the humans are dead

I've had mine on charge over the weekend and back on again last night. I think my alarm is either taking too much juice or there's not enough left in the battery, as the alarm does an extra warning beep when I switch it on/off. Or it could be the battery is on the way out as it's the original one and it is 5 years old. The Halfords charger I'm using is good but I have to un-clip the leads and put the seat back on so I might invest in an Optimizer for the winter as I've heard you can leave the really long leads in situ... ____________________ My claim to fame: Austin Vince nicked my pen... |

If im not riding the bike for a while, ill just charge the battery the night before i go out and its fine.
But the trickle charger sounds handy to have. ____________________ Suzuki SV 650 (blue of course!) |
