She has to idle high because every so often she misses a beat and the engine can die if she is set too low so I have her idling at under 2k.

Hopefully when I've replaced the headgasket that problem will evaporate.

Anythig happen with the starter or has it just packed it in?

Might help if you say what bike ?

Mines around 1,000 rpm some can be lower, some higher.
Kick or eletric start will make no diffrence.

Yeah, when warm it should be a healthy tick over so it doesnt sound like it is struggling, or revving either.

No idea on the numbers as my bike doesnt have a rev counter. Smile

My car idles at 1,500 when cold and about 800 when warm

basically, go for a nice long ride, fully warm the thing up, then adjust your idle jet so that the bike isnt about to stall and struggling to carry on, but not so high that its racing a bit.
once you've found those 2 points, you need to find a mid-point so that the throttle response is still quite fast, yet the engine still isnt racing.

Modern cars have an automatic "choke" Wink

My cbr idles at about 1,250rpm when warmed up.

when shes cold she'll usually sit at about 800rpm and then miss a beat and die. Then i put the choke on and start her back up, will idle at about 2,000rpm.

I find that if i start the bike with the choke, and then blip the throttle (upto about 5-6k) that the revs drops back down to about 3k, then carry on back down to 2k really slowly...

When fully warm, larger capacity engines should be set to idle between 1050-1250rpm. Singles need to be at the higher end of the scale for a reliable idle.

Smaller capacity motors may need higher idles, but ive yet to see an idle much over 1500rpm.
