Hi,

iv just bought a new 19" widescreen LCD monitor, and i had a few problems with the resolution, so i downloaded the latest driver for the grafix card (SIS 611FX) and it helped but i still cant get the 1440x900 resolution its meant to be. on the SIS website it says i should also update the BIOS version, which i am trying to do now, but i cant seem to work out what to download

Its an American Megatrends Inc, so i downloaded the motherboard finder software from their site and this is what comes up

Quote:

SMBIOS info:

but when i go to NEC site i can find anything with regards to updating the bios!?

If this is XP:

Does your system know what monitor is connected?
In the display settings does it say
Display
(Default monitor)

xxx resolution
-------------
/\

Try downloading the INF file for that monitor. (from the manufacturers site)

If it's still not allowing it, turn off the “Hide modes that this monitor cannot display” checkbox (under the adapter/advanced tab).

You will then be able to select any display mode , even if windows thinks it is incorrect for that monitor. Be carefull of selecting rediculous settings though, and if the screen goes weird, just wait for it to come back again (about 20 seconds) (or press ESC)

Be very carefull with that, and if you select a mode that screws everything up, you may need to reboot and push F8 to go into VGA mode.

Don't forget to run some colour profiling as well so your colours are true. at least load the colour profile that comes with the monitor.

i have installed the monitor driver, and it is showing up under the display setting, i get a lot off different resolutions all the way up to 2048x1536, just not 1440x900, i even get 1400x1050, just not 1440x900, atm im using 1152x864 which is the best out of themm but the screen is a little streched

Hide modes that this monitor cannot display is unchecked so i dunno..?

i find that 1024 x 768 pixels is better on my 19"
1440x900 just makes everything to small.
also check out microsoft update there will probably be an update for your screen there aswell under custom.

The story goes that lcd monitors give a crisper picture at their native resolution though.
So its best to try and have it matched to the res setting on your graphics card.

I just put a new system together for my father and when I tested a relatively cheap graphics card I got for him on an old crt monitor it did not offer resolution upto the required level.

Upon connecting it to the lcd monitor with the dvi connection I was then offered the increased res.

So make sure you're not using the old analogue vga connection instead ( blue one ) this may be your issue.

A quick google also suggests ensuring your video card drivers are up to date and using the control panel from the card software instead of the usual interface offered by windows.

google 1440 x 900 lcd resolution and you will be face with a bit of reading.

Good luck Thumbs Up

Had the same problem with my 20" LG, my old graphics card wouldn't display 1680 x 1050 so in the end I had to give up and install a new card. Annoying but it was due for an upgrade anyway!

Its a Philips 190WV7CS 19" TFT Widescreen Monitor 1440x900.

The problem i am having is that i cant set the screen resoulution to 1440x900, that exact setting is not available, its not like my grafix wont alow it ( it goes much higher) its just that setting is no appearing as an option?

Its a SIS 611FX, iv installed the monitor drivers, i have the latest grafix card drivers, and on the SIS website it says if the new driver for the grafix card dont work make sure your bois is up to date?
