Overheating smell....???

i have a 2000 r6 and have noticed recently when idling at lights etc. that i can smell what i can only describe as an overheating smell. everything is running fine, just not sure if i should worry about the smell or what may be causing it. it runs consistantly at 82 degrees when idling and a bit less running around if that is of any help to diagnose it.

do you know at what temperature the radiator fan cuts in at?..i would only worry if it went above that temperature and the fan didnt run,it could just be that its a normal smell and can only be noticed when the bike comes to a stop,or have you put some sort of polish on the exhaust pipe or engine casings?

You'll also get a 'burning' sort of smell when its been raining. Water on the road collects bits of rubber etc, splashes onto downpipes/engine and then burns off.

As long as your temps look ok I wouldnt worry

You may have a little oil coming out of abreather of a very small leak somewhere, which gives a cooking aroma. Thats where alot of old bikes get their smell. Your R6 is probably just developing a small leak somewheres.
