They use the phrase "consenting mobile phone users", but there will no doubt be people who know how, or will learn how to, exploit this service and track anyone, consenting or not.
Obvioulsy various services like the police are using this already, not to long ago there was a bit in the news where the police had tracked the last movements of a young girl (I believe she was murdered). This, I can accept as being justified, but not for random people to join up.

Big Brother is watching you.
Mind you, I'm always leaving my phone places, so they'd have trouble tracking me. |

hmm very dodgy.
At work we are running GPS technology on a VMS system that tracks all our vehicles, so we can tell where they are, where they went, where they have been, for how long and even how fast the vehicle was travelling!
but theres no reason to do this for phones as in theory you could trace a mobile to see if they are / aren't at home and go rob their house or something along those lines.
I definitely won't be signing up ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

As someone that works for a mobile phone company (Vodafone), and has spent many hours working with the police on kidnaps and missing children (including Soham), I feel I can give an expert opinion (for once:)). If the handset is anywhere but in a major city, with lots of small cells, we can only narrow an area down to a single cell. This could be as much a 35miles (somewhere like Dartmoor or the lake district), but is usually no more than 3 or 4 miles. Once the phone moves into a large city, then a cell can be as small as 300yds.
With a bit of patience, constant monitoring and a good map we can work out where the phone is moving and make educated guesses about it's where abouts. In fact we (as a team) have save many peoples lives using this 'best guess' technique .
Still, all this becomes irrelevant when we start talking about 3G, because with that we can give a 6 figure grid ref.
Still, if you are really worried about being located by your mobile, there is one really easy answer - don't turn it on unless you want to use it. If it's turned off, we can't know where it is! ____________________ I spend all my money on bikes and beer, the rest I simply waste! |

Anyway, back on topic!
Have you seen how much it will cost you should you sign up? Bunch of arseholes, they advertise as £5 a month, then when you read it its actually £30 for the first six months, then £5. You get ten goes free a month then after that it costs between 20 and 50 pence.
