Aldi or lidl seem to be the cheapest when they get the bike stuff in if you are prepared to wait until then.

Theres shitloads on ebay, even with postage you can get a new nitro for like 35 quid.
Oh and asking what shop is a bit useless when we don't know whether you're in Bude, Brixton or Barra!! ____________________ CBR125|||GSXR400|||CBR400|||CBR400|||CB250RS|||GSXR750|||CB250RS

Saw an awesome helmet today in the bike shop near me for 49.99
If you are planning on track days though you MUST have the gold seal of approval on the back of the helmet, £50 jobbies are just as safe and just as reliable except you can't take them on track days,
Sorted

Whats the point in getting a cheap helmet? thats kinda like putting a price on your own life.
If there was one piece of kit i wouldnt skimp on, the helmet would be it.
I've seen a brand new Arai split apart in a smash, so if an Arai does that, whats a cheap FM jobby going to do... probably just vapourise!
If you must be a cheap skate on some kit, do it on boots or gloves, something like that.

Which is a load of tosh and manufactureres simply strengthen the areas used in the test. There's no random area testing or repeated bounce test.
Most people prefer the american standard, however the ACU gold has proved to be a pack of shit and worthless. (every helmet is ACU Gold), You can even buy the stickers off ebayer.
Because of this the government are in the process of coming up with a more meaningful standard and a severe testing program.
I've had cheap lids and they're generaly shit, cheap plastic, poor vents, poor fitting. In fact I had 3 cheap (sub £100 lids) before getting a Shoei, it was a false economy. My Shoei has lasted far longer and I have seen MotoGP/WSB wearing them. |
Don't for a second confuse your off-the-shelf Arai or Shoei with the custom made lids that the top racers in MotoGP and WSB wear, they're not even in the same ballpark. Made to measure for each nindividual rider.
What you'll find with lids is that they're all tested to the same standard but the more expensive oes tend to be better built, vents that work, visors that seal etc etc.
Cheers
