I'd try any local bike shows. I got my first helmet, jacket and gloves for the princely sum of £100. Then I went to a bike show a couple of months later and found my exact model of helmet for £29.95.

If you are planning on track days though you MUST have the gold seal of approval on the back of the helmet, £50 jobbies are just as safe and just as reliable except you can't take them on track days,

Whats the point in getting a cheap helmet? thats kinda like putting a price on your own life.

If there was one piece of kit i wouldnt skimp on, the helmet would be it.

I've seen a brand new Arai split apart in a smash, so if an Arai does that, whats a cheap FM jobby going to do... probably just vapourise!

If you must be a cheap skate on some kit, do it on boots or gloves, something like that.

Expensive doesn't always mean they are better quality.

Shoei and Arai helmets are more expensive than say Nitro but doesn't mean that they are any better. Which is kind of a rip because you would expect them to be alot better for the price difference.

My head gets protected with as much money as I can afford, it has import stuff in it. personally I reckon +1% chance of not having brain damage in a crash is worth £500. I have an AGV titech, best fit for me.

They're all made to the same safety standard. What I got told on my CBT is that as long as it fits and it's new, it's fine.

Arai,do much more testing that other manufacturers. They do a spike test and a multiple impact test too (among others)

Spend as much as you can afford.
