Just thought I'd pop in and say hello, not been on here for quite a while. Sold the XJR about a month back and have just bought a 2001 Busa, needs some work as it's had a bit of a bump and is currently an unlicensed Cat C write off , bent forks, plastic damage, pipes etc but with a little work over the winter she'll be ready for the new year, bring it on Mr. Green

Well done Mike Thumbs Up

Souns like you got a nice deal there and if you're patient you should be able to pick-up a complete bodykit for £400. If you need a left indicator I *might* have one - I'll have to check - they are £90 new.

EDIT: By the way, Suzuki didn't bring in any new 'busas in 2001 because they over-did it in 2000 and still had a years worth of bikes to shift. It's likely yours is an RX or RY model, with external fuel-pump and 220mph clocks.

Just noticed in your pic you got the battery hooked up to what looks like a normal charger. This will cook the battery - you'll notice the sides of the battery will bulge a bit - at which point it's knackered. If it was flat when you got it then it's knackered anyway. This is really important on a 'busa because starting one on a weak battery can cause the engine to kick-back which smashes the starter gear off the engine and usually wrecks the main engine cases where is wrenches the idler-gear shaft out of it's spigot. Best bet is to buy a new battery, or even better a Yuasa YTZ-14S which is more powerful and fits straight in.

It's got the restricted version clocks and the fuel pump is in the base of the tank so not sure although it comes up on the HPI as an RY ? as for the battery charger it's a switchable job with high and low ampage settings so no probs there, it wasn't competely flat as the guy had stored it disconnected so hopefully it's OK but obviously any doubt it'll be swapped Wink cheers for the headsup Thumbs Up

The restriction can be remove with a 6.8k resistor (If you really must go over 186mph), and the in-tank pump makes it a later model which is handy as the external-pump moels have a habit of clogging-up the 3 filters inside after 15k miles.

For the battery you should only use a charger like an optimate, the gel batteries are very easy to ruin. You might be lucky but the ods aren't good in my experience. Plenty of good technical advice over on 200mph.org Wink

Actually I was wrong, I had another look tonight while battling with the manifold studs, 3 hours to get the downpipes off !!!! Anyway, I think the pump is external so you we're on the money when you said it's a late registered early model. Got me worried now as I've read a few things about the 99/00 models having cam chain tensioner issues ?

Also found a bit more damage tonight, the sprocket cover casing where the clutch slave mounts is split, something else for the shopping list
Neutral

Not too worried about derestricting it just yet Wink
