I dont know about you guys, but i find going slow so boring. I'm really struggling at the moment to grasp just how fast is too fast, without actually breaking the speed limit in the process.
Reason all this has come about is i got caught speeding back in August and I got 3 points and £60 fine. That i don't mind because it was my fault and i deserved the points. That kicked things into perspective for me as i'm still on L plates so another 3 points for any reason and i'll lose my license. I don't want that to happen!!
Since then i've been really careful about my speed, keeping it down, and not breaking speed limits incase there's a copper hiding round the bend with a speed-gun again. I thought i was doing quite well.
I took a 3 hour riding lesson yesterday and the instructor said i was still too fast, and that my riding looked aggressive. I will do everything i can to change this if it means i can pass my test next Monday, and i have two more lessons booked which are both 3 hours long. Hopefully freezing my ass off for 6 hours will help curb my enthusiastic riding
Is it really so terrible that i do like to get up to speed quite quickly? I'm not breaking any laws and i'm mindful of my speed at all times too. Why do i feel so guilty all of a sudden?!
I could make excuses saying that my bike is quick, it weighs nothing and i weigh nothing which is why i'm so nippy, but that's just not the case. Well, i'm sure it helps, but i control the throttle when all's said and done
Does anyone understand what i'm getting at or is in the same boat? Love speed but can't speed for fear of reprimand?
I can't wait until i can go on a trackday! ____________________ "One moment can change a day, one day can change a life and one life can change the world." Siddhartha Gautama |

Im pretty sure almost every member of this forum will agree with you
It is hard going slow. The very act of going slow makes me want to speed up, so slowing down...makes me speed up. Its a viscious, twat of a circle.
I thought of my test as a bit of a white lie to my true riding character. You just gotta be James May for half an hour
All I can say is literally, think of not being able to ride again or at least for a year or so if you do get caught again. Or even a month, if you dont pass
You got caught by a speed gun? Thought they arent allowed to be used nowadays! Theyre supposed to be VERY innacurate on motorbikes? Someone clocked a stationary fireblade at 47mph ____________________ "Oh....it looks like Average Joe's is forfeiting the match!" - "Yeah, its a risky strategy but lets see if it pays off for 'em Cotton." |

Just got off 3 points, nothing came through the post.
That would have made it over 24 points in total i think.
I've been banned once already but that was for 58 in a 50.
Still i continue to see open bits of road and think, why not.
Sometimes you get caught out like i have, i can recall every time i was caught speeding all but one were SP30's. ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

All you can rely on is your own eyes and intuition.
Only camera I've been done by, was a mobile one I saw and slowed down for, but clearly accelerated too soon after passing it. Thought I'd be out of range, as it looked like a speck when I turned around to check. Must have been just in range as my recorded speed was 72 mph when seconds later I was well over a ton. Lesson learned; wait for the next corner before resuming hoonage. ____________________ TL1000s, KDX200 |

I know exactly what you mean, and I'm sure every forum member here with a pair of balls (and some without) can sympathise. I myself am into several (I hate the word) 'extreme' sports and i have fun scaring myself on a regular basis. Driving a car or bike normally doesn't bring anything like the same buzz or rush and prompts me to go faster and faster. I've learnt that driving/riding fast is okay, as long as you have the observation and perception skills to match. Only speed in the distance you can see to be clear of the twats in blue |

theres no speed thats two fast.
ive got 3 points for doing 45 in a 30 which is gay
but ive been pulled twice for doing over a ton
once about 200 yards from my house when i was doing about 120-130 and i happend to over take on a solid white line and there happened to be a copper coming right towards me. he let me off with that altho he never mentioned the speed.
once in a 40 zone doing 120mph on my cb 500 head down behind the clocks lol he had a benny at me and let me go.
but on both occasions it was like 1am-3am
so if you want to speed do it at night
if you want to pass your test you need to ride like a nun....are you a nun? ____________________ Current .. 2008 BMW R 1200 GS Adventure ..

haha, laughed at reading this.
it was only sunday that i had my first on road lesson in preperation to my test and was told pretty much the same thing. i attack roundabouts too fast and dont slow down. and they could fail me for it - when out today i was much slower
even enjoyed it more. coming down a dual carrigeway at 60 and saw a 30 sign, a road i used to ride regular anyway. did my mirror check and dropped to 30 just as i passed the sign - had a a grin on my face for some reason and enjoyed being sensible for a change. that will all change once i get my license and hit the roads on my 600 im sure!
good luck with your test mate. |
