Anyone that has replaced the standard relay for a 21W one for the indicators, could you please tell me how you did it???

Do you have to remove the rear panels of bodywork, or can you get to it from under the seat???

Also, is it just a case of unplugging one and plugging the new one in or what???

Cheers..........

just have to unplug it and plug in the new one
piece of preverbial piss
and yes, you can 'just' get it out from under the seat without removing panels....but it is tight. Very Happy

I've a brand new "21w x 4" blinker relay that you can have...I bought it for my NSR, but obviously...

There shouldn't be a difference between car and bike blinkers (relays), but you just need to make sure that it has the correct number of "pins"...The NSR relay has 2 pins, but can get them 3 or 4 pins as well...

...ask for a HFU200 relay the next time that you're in Halfords...

Scooby if you slide the black rubber case down that is on the back of your lights under the seat, then you should just beable to pull it out! The relay has two pins in an "L" shape. I too bought the 21w x 4 relay and it works fine with all the 23w bulbs. Which are brighter than the bog standard items. It will only cost you £4! well thats up here in scotland anyway so you might get it cheaper down there! good luck mate and you will get it out!!!

OK, went to Halfords today, got a HFU200 4x21W Relay. Got all excited on the way home cos I also bought some new indicators today with clear iridium effect on them. Got home and took to work on my bike.

Off come the old indicators. Got all the new ones in place and wired up. Now for the relay. 2 mins later the new relay is in place.

Now to test. On goes the ignition. On goes the left indicator.....bang. Fuse blown. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes I wonder why??? Hmmm....I thought.....let me check the wiring it is obviously shorting out somewhere.......tried again..... bang. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Ok running out of fuses here I have one left..... what the fuck can it be.......... I know let me try duct tape all over my wiring connections just to make 100% sure nothing is short circuiting onto the frame. On goes the ignition......bang. FUCK.

What the fuck can it be??? Possibly a faulty relay??? I know its the right relay, but could it be faulty??? Would this cause the fuse to blow??? It coulda taken a bash in the shop, I dunno. Rolling Eyes Plz help me out here I have a bike with no working indicators on at the mo so I can't ride my bike!!!!

OK...have you checked:

1.) ...if you need different "size" fuses for a more "powerful" relay?
2.) That the bulbs in the indicators are 21w?...a lot of aftermarket minis use 23w bulbs...?

(please don't blame me if it turns out to be the wrong relay!...but I apologise in advance if it is...)

I don't see why I need a higher amp fuse for different wattage bulbs and relay....and ValentinoRossi's was fine. Also, he said that 23W indicators are fine with the 21W relay so any more ideas....

And by the way, I think it is the correct relay.

Scooby open up one of your mini indicators and check the bulb! Make sure they are 23W! If so go to your local perol station where you can buy a bulb for your bike, you should try a smaller bulb like a 5W or 10W. It wont be that bright but at least they will work, Keep 3 bulbs 23W and only swap one to a 5W or 10W! A bulb will only cost you £1. My indicators are the Motrax kind but your's may be different! If that doesnt work then i dunno whats the problem! Good luck mate! Keep me updated

In the end I took Korn's advice. Standard relay, back indicators 23W bulbs, front 2 4W bulbs. Same as Annabella's done...ish.

Took the relay I bought back to Halfords....I didn't have the packaging but I had the actual relay and the reciept, and the relay itself says "HALFORDS 21W x 4 FLASHER UNIT" down the side..... they played hell.... we don't do refunds without the packaging..... so I said you either gimme my money back or I take a bottle of Turtle Wax (which is bout £8.99) cos I am entitled to my money back (I said the relay was fooked) and after a long arguement she spoke to the manager who firstly offered me a refund then I said no chance mate, I spend a lot of money in Halfords each year and if you're gonna play hell when I bring a £4.99 flasher unit back you can bollocks, I'll go somewhere else.....
