Start a post in the new bikers section if you have any such questions. Some common-sense is required when parking your bike such as if you're parking against the kerb (as in a bike-bay) always park with your rear-wheel against the kerb never your front wheel. There are a number of reasons:
You can sit on the bike, flip up the stand and ride it away, rather than having to try to pull it backwards which risks you dropping the thing or knocking the next bike over.
It stops the camber of the road from rolling the bike off the stand.
It allows you and the bike parked next to you access to the seat from the rear of the bike rather than fighting past handlebars.
In hot weather, take care where you put-down your sidestand, as it can slowly sink into the tarmac and topple your bike over. Find some good standing or use a puck.
Some people park their bikes and leave their chain looped through the wheel and laying on the floor. Most people do this so that the next person can loop their cain through the next bike's chain, thus securing them together.
If you use a disc-lock, park your rear-wheel to the kerb and put the lock on the front disk just below the brak caliper. This means that if you forget it you will opnly be able to move an inch before it stops against the caliper causing little or no damage. If you put it in front of the forks the wheel can do a full turn and smash the disk or the caliper. My brother smashed his CBR forks like this by breaking the caliper hanger off the fork leg.
Never park in bicycle bays (in London at least), they will pick your bike up and take it away. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'
