...and the novelty of using the bike is wearing thin not because of the bike itself but because of the condition of the roads.

I have a 30+ mile round trip commute down the A127. Anyone in this part of the County will know that its a bit of a pain at times with traffic backing up, so a bike was the obvious choice to get to work on time on a day to day basis.

The trip is basically a straight road with a bit of town riding, so no twisty or urban playing. The odd curve that it does have has the obligatory lamp post on the start of the bend giving a lovely focus point to cause a few sphincter tickles if not paying attention. Other bends are in constant darkness caused by shadows of the bordering trees, roundabouts have manhole covers at odd intervals and distances from the curbs...

...the worst part of the trip is the amount of road repairs or cracks that has the wheels skipping from side to side and as these are predominantly down the middle part of the road coupled with some slippery white paint and the hardest cats eyes known to man is just not funny in the rain, or the dry for that matter.

And finally when you get the head down and the ass up along comes a filter lane or junction that means that cars suddenly change lanes in front of you without warning.

I am a pussy when it comes to speeding but I think I've only taken the bike up to 8-9k and 110mph due to a multitude of reasons but mostly due to the shitty roads!!!! The bikes fab, but I just aint doing it justice.

Ho hum for the hum drum commute.

Just look at the commute as a time saving exercise at this time of year and save the fun for when its safer.

Pays to keep speed down now, far too much crap on the roads from leaves, fuel and fooking grit......

I start a new job Monday, and the commute's a whopping 2 miles. I'll probably be better off walking it.

I'm about a mile away from Uni, and even closer to work and I still use the bike. If nothing else it means I can take a stupid long route home when I fancy some fun.

I am 20 miles away from work, I use M55 then M6 to get to work, as I am usually cutting it fine and can do that journey in 14 minutes. On the way home I use A roads.

I am wondering about the safety of my return journey though as tonight I was overtaking, not filtering and some idiot deliberately swerved towards me into my path. We were on a single carriageway and I was already in the centre of the other lane. Thank god for a fairly rapid bike, I was able to pull ahead and then filter to get way ahead of him.

I like riding in winter.

It's more challenging and it shows if your really committed to biking.

Its damn cold early and late nowadays.

I love the cold makes my nipples erect.

I used to think that but 100 miles a day in snow is crap on any bike. Now I have a car and a toy and it's much better. Done 25k a year on the bike and, although you do feel more in tune with the bike come summer, it really isn't worth the hassle.

Cheers

yep it pretty horrible out there at the moment.
i'm keeping a close eye on the weather these days as with the amount of white paint and man hole covers every 10 metres or so it makes life difficult.
I looked out the window a minute ago and the car is covered with a thick frost so tomorrow morning is going to be a freezing run to work.
I'll stick with the bike as it cuts my journey time down from 1 hour to 20 minutes but once it gets wet i'll be back in the car.
not that i want to but i can't seem to find a set of waterproofs that don't leak somewhere and sitting in soggy cloths is not fun.

No frost in Blackpool today, but it is cold though. My car will be back on the road for Dec 1st, after 7 months parked up at my dad's, so if it gets too icy I might be tempted to use it for work, even though my journey will take up to an hour.

I feel for you mate, I've got 25 minutes of quality twisties and one big straight on the way to my work Cool It's a total blast in the cage so can't wait to ride it when I get a bike! Although a fair few of the sections are covered by trees so there's gonna be a damp/frost issue over winter, I might have to wait for dry spring days before I start hooning properly Wink
