Hi
They tend stop at each place for a couple of hours but even a small village can have 2 stops (they aslo do to the door collections in some cases).
Staffordshire has 11 mobile vans between then they cover 950 stops each fornight covering the whole area.
so I would guess it can soon rack the miles up.
Regards

Well, it came down to the guy claiming it had only 19000 miles on it, but when I worked it out (at the last minute) it would have had to have been doing an average of only 588 miles per year. Using rough estimates it was looking like a couple of miles a day, which was totally impossible (say 200 days a year in use). Then he got a bit odd on the phone about it, so we figured it has to have been around the clock and has probably done 119000 miles.
But, after a good couple of months perusing campervans on EBay, and seeing the stupid sort of money even old crap goes for, I figure what I've bought is a pretty good deal. The only downside is the size of the engine, it'll probably get about 18 miles to the gallon. The guy converted it himself and going by the pictures it's a top job (engineer by trade, and has been a kitchen-fitter in the past). And the spec is awesome. A similarly sized and specced US RV, same kind of age (which are considerbly cheaper than UK kit), would be around 15k. I was going to go £7500 on this one, but after sussing the probable mileage I went £6500 and got it for £6200. Even if the entire engine and gearbox needed replacing I'd still be quids in.
Two others, based on the exact same vehicle, and of no better spec or build quality, are going for £11500 and £22000 respectively.
Still, the proof will be in the pudding as they say. I'll be picking it up next weekend. It even has a garage with space for a Blade (I'll be using the space for a Gazebo and a couple of mountainbikes ). ____________________ "There's the horizon! the law is changing soonish or has changed the first 2500 litres of your own fuel you make = tax free, I reckon 550 gallons is more than enough to go from one end o Europe to the other. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. When you said about getting a camper van I thought it'd be a VW at least not an RV.
I know where you're coming from with having a bike, family and kids. I went camping from just 6 weeks old and always in tents of some description so a little more 'luxury' would be nice.
A monkey will be a nice little tourer when at the destination as can be strapped to the back of the van. ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

From what I've read so far there's some sort of issue with waxes in veggie oil clogging up the injectors? Seems to be more of a problem with newer hi-tech motors. The one in my wagon is an old 1988 6-cyl 6-liter oil-crunching munter (Ford Cargo), so I'm hoping it'll be ok. Maybe run injector-cleaner through it after every tankful?
Edit: Wow, that last link looks pretty pukka Ste, thanks. ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |
