how do u set up the ignition timing on my mito?? iv had to swap coils because i damaged one screwing the bolts in too far as it is my first time removing the flywheel

why are you taking the flywheel off?

which coil did you damage?

generally you'd set the timing using a strobe light connected to the HT lead and pointed at the timing mark on the flywheel. Then you'd adjust the stator plate holding the ignitor pickup to get the mark in the light.

Hi

There is (from memory) a special tool for setting the timing on the Mito. Not sure of an easy way to do it otherwise, beyond playing around with a strobe light.

and holyman i had to take the flwheel off to replace a gasket that fits on a casing behind the flwheel and i swapped the coil over as i thougth might aswell while the flyweel as the flywheel is off

ah ok so that is why you need to check the timing. gotcha. that is the pickup coil.

right...read that......at 1mm before TDC the stator plate lines up with a mark on the crankshaft. but you don't have the tool right?

are there any timing marks on the flywheel?

Put the stator plate on as above. That'll get you about right, however you should of marked the old one before taking it off.

that's what the dial gauge would tell you, but you could use the old old way of a pencil down the spark plug hole. But to be honest your best bet is someone who has the right tools.

You must mean the one you use to set up the stator plate (Tool 48803) You will need to buy or borrow this tool from someone to time it properly. It fits on the crank and locates on the woodruff key. The notched mark on the top of this tool (at about 12 oclock) must line up with a similiar notch on the stator plate (roughly in the centre of the top coil) when the piston has travelled 1 mm* down the bore. *This figure can vary depending on which engine
