 |
|
So I've decided to get myself an NC30. A mate of mine used to have one and they have always appealed to me. I was set on getting a TT600 or a speed four, however after giving one a test ride at the weekend they're a tad too fast, far to easy to be doing three figure speeds
Anyway its a UK bike, 1991 NC30 taxed and tested for £999. Only thing is it only has 10,000 miles on the clock? for a bike that is advertised as very clean and tidy this seems rather cheap?! I don't have that much knowledge on these bikes when it comes to what they are worth but after having a quick look about it makes me a little suspicious.
Bargain or potential lemon? ____________________ NSR 125F > BROS 400 > NC30 > BROS 400 > Trumpet S4 > '97 VFR 750 |

If you find a UK spec NC30 for a grand I'd like to shake you by the hand. I expect at least 16000kms on the clock then. However, it is popular to fit a mechanical KM/MPH converter to{edited for GsxrMick!} Grey Import {edit} NC30's meaning it could potentially have done 16000 miles or less. Still, that isn't /too/ bad, and I picked up my NC30 for £900. However it is a 1995 with 18000kms showing on the clock. It does have a mechanical speedo converter too though.
My advice would be look and be skeptical. The things I would check are:
That the exhaust isn't holed or blowing anywhere;
That the brake discs aren't warped;
That it starts OK on the button and the battery isn't flat (reg rec faults are common!).
and that the bodywork isn't too tatty. The bodywork can't really be replaced.
for me, £999 for a 1991 bike... /any/ 1991 bike is quite a lot of money. I wouldn't pay that for a 1991 CBR600 for example (particularly not a grey import with dubious mileage and history!). 400's are all overpriced IMO. 600's are much better value. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade
Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Hahahahahahaha! You sir, are a mug sir, if you believe that /any/ NC30 is worth 2 grand. Unless it was owned by Craigs23!!
If you find one that is immaculate, then fair doos, but I've never seen an immaculate NC30. Apart from Craigs23's. I've certainly never seen a UK spec one... |
I'm the mug!? I bet the guy could quite easily sell it for 2grand + if he wanted to. I've been looking at the nc30 market nearly every single day for the past couple of years (yes its sad, but i love'em), and there are even jap spec 30's that can go for close to 2 grand when they're in good nick, so i have no doubt in my mind that if the bike is as described, and it is "very clean and tidy", that its a complete bargain at £999. Yes its winter, and yes the market for nc30's has dropped a bit, but uk spec nc30's are quite rare, and collectors are more likely to go for them over the jap ones, and pay top dollar for them as well. So there you go "mug", get your facts right. ____________________ Past bikes - 1991 NC30 - 1991 Bandit 400 - 1989 CBR400 NC23 - 1993 NC30 - 1991 ZXR400 L1 - 1993 NC30 - 2003 CBR600RR3 - 2003 Ducati 900SS - 2000 SP1 - 2013 899 Panigale

I think the point Marjay was making is that no NC30 is WORTH 2 grand. You can certainly get £2k for an NC, but it's probably not worth it.
My very good condition UK NC30 only cost £1400 so to be honest I don't think a grand is bargain, just the right price for a clean NC. ____________________ NC30 + Bandit 6

I agree with Marjay 100% and the only reason I had to go for a 400 is how short I am however I am well aware I paid over the odds for what it is.
Being a bit taller, I would have taken my £1500 and spanked it on a gixer hahahaha ____________________ NC30 + Bandit 6
