it is the torquiest production motorcycle, previously that honour was held by the 1800 Goldwing! ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade

My bet is it's also heavy, in keeping with Triumph design, therefore can get the power down(in a straight line). ____________________ Gallery |

Didn't notice that, fook, 320kg that's almosat twice the weight of my bike. Wouldn't like to have to back that thing up to turn it round, at least Goldwings have reverse, or does this too? ____________________ Gallery |

You forget that the Rocket makes 140 ftlb, so a gixxer with an extended swingarm would need a bit of tuning too...
The swingarm isn't going to make it accelerate faster, just able to keep the front wheel down. I know the gixxer is lighter too, but I still reckon the rocket will accelerate faster.
Whats the peak torque and dry weight of a gixxer 1000?
torque to weight ratio of the Rocket is 0.454 (assuming torque is 147 ftlb and weight is 320kg as quoted on the site)
gixxer is about 75ftLb ish at a guess weighing in at around 165Kg (dodgy dry manufacturer weight)
so thats oh... look at that 0.454.....
maybe a longer arm might make a difference after all! ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade

I think the Busa is still the fastest machine around (that you can buy out of the shop) The Rocket 3 has 140HP compared to the Busa's 175HP. The Rocket 3 is also heavier than the Busa.
From a power-to-weight ratio point of view, i would say the Busa will chew up the Rocket and spit it out like gum!!!!!
Just my thoughts on this whole thread. ____________________ < Live To Ride & Ride To Live > |

That new triumph just needs a V&H 3-1 drag pipe, and a nice shiny blower fitted on the side, with a 3" wide drive belt, just to give it a much needed 50bhp boost, and then you'd have the perfect Mad Max4 Vehicle, so come on triumph you know it makes sense!
Seriously i too doubt that the Rocket 3 will actually out accelerate a big bore sports bike from rest. I know GSXR/R1's etc would be hard to launch really fast, but the weight difference is huge, and i would think that from a standstill weight is a big consideration. The Busa etc would be able to transmit more of its power to the road than a GSXR, wheelspin aside, and so should get far enough ahead of the triumph to beat it on 0-60 and 0-100mph. Long wheelbase cruisers/muscle bikes generally dont accelerate that quickly as wheel spin is a problem. Look at the Vmax, some people claimed that it was like a road legal drag bike, and would trounce sports bikes on the 1/4 mile. It was proven in a race against a blade that by the time the rear hoop stops squealing, the blade has buggered off into the distance. It still looks impressive though to lay a 100m black line, and see all that smoke pouring from the back wheel. The area where the Triumph will excel is midrange acceleration, and roll ons in top gear, where that huge torque, will likely make up for its considerable weight. |

Looks like you lost your seat mate.
Try some tie wraps to keep it on.
Who cares If your bikes faster than most, not proving anything really. Just a waste of time really.
I'll challenge you. Me on my pushbike and you pushing your 'Busa. Then we'll see who's accelerates faster. ____________________ "Put your hands up motherstickers, this is a f*ck up!" |
