Hi all just wondering what size compressor is needed to seat the beads on the rims. Ie tank size maximum psi etc.
I dont want to buy a huge industrial one if it's not needed. All input is greatly appreciated thanks AJ

25 litres should be ok and be a reasonable size. Much smaller and it's either not that powerful or the compressor bit is just as big anyway.

Most 25 litres ones I've seen have been a fairly similar spec.

its not size that counts when seating the bead you need pressure make sure its got a max pressure of at lest 140-150 psi

25 Ltr's will get a tubeless tyre back on the rim easily ,having large bore Air hoses helps as well.

Thumbs Up

Not 100% true, you can get a low volume compressor that will get 150psi but will take all day to do it whereas a 2hp 50ltr hobby compressor will have a maximum working pressure of about 110-120psi but will sit the bead in no time. Size (volume) is very important, seating a bead wastes a lot of air, theres no point if you run out of in seconds. Its CFM that counts.

6CFM on a 25 litre tank, about 1.5 HP motor, just about did it on a 130/90 tyre with a bit of coaxing.
8-9CFM with a 50 litre tank, at least 2hp motor, does it easy.

Oh well I've gone and bought one now so hopefully it will do the job. Maximum tyre size I got to contend with is 150/70 17

The compressor is a 24 litre 1.5 kw 8bar 208 litres a minute

roughly coverted to Ichy's figures at 2hp motor max 117psi with a approx 7.4 cfm.

Did not cost a fortune just hope it seats the beads.

Thanks for all the input AJ Thumbs Up

It should do it easy. The hardest bit is sealing any gaps, bit hard to explain but I find that sitting on the tyre to make it spread helps when I have a awkward one.

A ratchet strap all the way around the tread of the tyre can be used to squeeze the tyre to get an initial seal before blowing air in. When you are trying to initially seat a tyre, it is an idea to leave the valve out the wheel too, as getting air in quickly is important, at least it is on a tubeless.
