I had an 8 x 6 on my Hornet, that was ok.
Going for a 7 x 5 on the mille, I think 6 x 4 looks too small and may get a pull. 7 x 5 is the ideal compromise IMO.
And yeah all 1 liners are illegal. ____________________ My Flickr |

Think he's referring to this...
| Quote: | Dark visors during daylight hours should not lead to prosecution, police have finally agreed.
The Motorcycle Enforcement Strategy for England, Wales and Northern Ireland says advice should be given only.
The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) asked riders through MCN what the strategy should be before drawing it up. Common sense on dark visors was one of your biggest demands.
The strategy also says illegal number plates should not lead to prosecution unless they are unreadable from 20.5 metres – another area in which you urged common sense.
On illegal dark visors during the day the strategy recommends “advice only”. It adds: “If used during the hours of darkness or conditions of reduced visibility, consider prosecution… Only in cases where there is an obvious danger should prosecution be considered.“
With regard to small plates it says: “It has been decided not to focus on the technicalities of the size of the plate or font size to comply with current legislation, but to apply a simple test of legibility, based upon the standard eyesight test for riders and drivers.”
The strategy has immediate effect. David Griffin, head of motorcycle safety for ACPO, warned it was guidance only. He said: “It’s not immunity from prosecution.” |

Bear in mind that's an ACPO Strategy, not law, so a bike will still fail MOT if NumberPlate is illegal etc... and if you DO get pulled and it goes to court then likelihood is you'll get done... and you can still be pulled if an officer really feels like it... BUT, the strategy means that it shouldn't get that far, unless they're tacking the numberplate being too small onto another issue with your vehicle/driving that is more serious. Basically, a strategy is open to personal/individual interpretation - a law isn't. Therefore, don't rely on the new ACPO Guidelines to back you up. Personally, only one I'll risk is dark visor - my numberplate stays the "legal" size / font.
Personally, wish they'd not have bothered. Half the country thinks that the ACPO guidelines make small number plates legal, when in reality, they aren't. You CAN still be prosecuted for them if the officer chooses to do so... it's just added more confusion to the whole issue. ____________________ FAB-Racing MiniMotoSidecars - Back with a vengeance - F1 Class 2011...

Black & Silver plates can only be used on the road if the vehicle is registered before 1973. My first car had them, looked the dogs in those day.
Strange thing is, there is a black Merc (S600 or something) local to me who has got black plates, had them for years. So may be the gixxer rider wont get pulled.
Bollox he wont! ____________________ Current - Yamaha R1 - Yamaha XJ600N - Kawasaki GPZ 500S (project? Maybe )

As from this month its all changed again...
Bike plates have to be a fixed size, letters a single font and size, no backgrounds, no logos other than GB or euro flag, must carry a type approval marking and show the postcode of the manufacturer.
So even my legal plate with its Aprilia badge is now illegal |

i got a £30 fine for "failing to dispay index plate" when i was pulled for my 7x2 single liner. I went home and thought well if i get that for displaying a readable plate i might aswell go smaller, it'll work out cheaper in the end ____________________ Current : '08 Yamaha FZ1s
