NEC Bike Show Security

I was at the NEC yesterday for a trade show and had a very long walk from Gate 3 to Hall 10 ( I was told to park at Gate 3 by the cops as "There are a lot of thieves working here". I am not a bike thief but it put the idea into my head and I had a good look at security on the car parks. It is at an absolute minimal with almost no guards and only the odd camera focused on entrances rather than the parking areas themselves. The NEC is I believe close on going bust and it shows, I doubt even the cameras that are there actually work.
My advice...Go by train.

i have been thinking of going by train, simply as a paddock stand may be easier to bring back by train

has anyone been to the nec by train?

is it something like you get off at the stop for birmingham airport, and then you make your way to the nec ?

can anyone whos done it say if its fairly easy, or if i might as well stick to going by bike ?

i doubt that security is worse than ur avergae supermarket car park

8 quid for parking and they're going bust Its a rip off when you think of how much the entrance fee to most shows is.

Then again I've never understood why people are happy to pay to go into a show to buy stuff.

I always go by train but then I do perhaps drink a little more than is healthy. Always tend to have a ruck sack full by the time I head back to London for some more drinky-poo's.

Never had a problem by train. Houston to Birmingham International, £37.00 with Virgins.

i went by train last year and met some people who went on their bikes. hadnt been there before and had been told just to follow the signs. thats all i did and was there in a few minutes. didnt have to go outside even

Having been many times my advice would be to go by car or train if you live more than 20 miles away and/or are planning to buy anything bulky there, also don't forget that some years ago a bunch of bikers got snowed in there and ended up walking around the clothes show which was on at the same time then had to sleep on the floor as the roads were to bad to ride home on.

And take an empty ruck sack with you for all the gumpf you'll pick up at the show.

Just get the train to Birmingham International. This is for both the airport (monorail transfer to the airport) and the NEC, it'll take you minutes to walk to the NEC from the train station, it's all indoors and signposted past lots of coffee shops/sandwich shops.

Yeah, i've been to the NEC by train, you get off at brum international and then there's a loooooong multi-travelator trip to get over to the exhibition halls, though i think the thing i was going to was in hall 18 or summat - so it may not be as far to the main ones. it was 10 years ago, so it's all a tad hazy.

I have to say I find it really funny to see people argueing over the same BS year in and year out, if the NEC was held in the summer then I might think about riding to it but I'm not gonna ride all the way from London to the NEC just so I can thump me chest and say "look at me I'm hard I am", if you you think it's hard to freeze your nuts of on a bike then fair do's to ya but I'll still be taking the car/train without fear of hypothermia thanks

Hi,

I went up in the girlfriend's car. I had to take clothes and smellies etc as I was working on the Benelli stand and had to stay at a hotel. I say hotel but what I meant was a tiny pub in Coleshill which came top of the list on yell.com when I searched for NEC hotels.

Twas my first time at the NEC and I quite enjoyed it. Bloody expensive for grub though. If you're going try the Wetherspoons 12oz burger, £9 but its VERY meaty, it has actual beef would you believe!

I went up there on my bike and the security was indeed top rate, plus i used the riders for health lid van so i didnt have to carry that around.

Only problem with taking bike is either not being able to carry stuff (but most offer delivery anyway) or that most of the journey for me anyway is motorway, which is just boring.
