 |
|
I'm currently trying to find an insurer who will give me cover for my Hornet and let me ride other insured bikes with the owner's permission. Other than Carole Nash, who are quoting me £400 more than my £250 renewal price, I'm not having any luck as I'm 20 and not 21, which seems to be the magical cut off point at which insurance companies think I'll somehow become more sensible.
Is anyone aware of an insurer who will let me ride other bikes before I'm 21? It's getting very annoying having a shiny Monster in the garage that I can't ride. ____________________ Photos and that |

Yeah I've had a couple of places say that too. Either way I get the impression it's not going to happen.
A nice bike in the garage, permission to ride it and I'm happy to pay a bit extra for the insurance yet I can't ride it legally because nobody'll offer the cover. Stupid. ____________________ Photos and that |

Cheers for the suggestions. No joy with Adrian Flux or MCE (they want silly money) but Equity are supposed to be calling me back later. I'll try Direct Choice too. ____________________ Photos and that |

how VERY tempting..
I've just checked a quote for Trade cover, giving me fully comp on ANY bike in my posession, as long as it's involved in 'sales, service or demonstration purposes' and includes personal use too. It would mean that any one of my 7 bikes would have to be 'for sale' or 'in for service for a customer' but I buy and sell that many bikes throughout the year, or have friend's bikes that I'm repairing that that's not impossible to claim.
£610 per year.
I think that's VERY tempting...
that's less than I'm paying now, but giving me fuly comp on any bike, anywhere, even if I don't own it is nice. Would also save hassles when it comes to tax my various bikes, as I don't currently have them all insured, so don't want to pay insure it JUST to tax it, if I'm only going to sell it on. (as happened recently with the GPZ)

Try Bell, part of admiral I think.

They let me drive any other cars at 18, don't know if they'll offer it with a bike policy? A good £800 cheaper than anyone else for me too! ____________________ -southlondoner-

tax as a motortrader eh? ,
I suppose you can register for self employment pay the £2.20 class 2 NI , make zilch and get a class 2 exemption certificate.
Along with this subordiate say 10% of your house space as biz property and declare this on your tax return ,
lose money on it and claim S381 or was it S380 on it to pay less tax on your day job. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Depends in that a trade isn't defined by the money you make , I know a guy who has been making losses for years HMRC hate him though.
I suppose you could go the alternative ltd company route which means make EXACTLY £80 , prep corp tax returns and submit returns to companies house. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die.
