Before the insults start flying, Im a pansy I know.

Ive gotten over accidents pretty well before, Ive been through the down stage and the unsure stage but managed to work through it.

Some of you might remember that I had a low speed spill on my 636 on a new tyre a few months ago. Theres a few more ins and outs than that but id only done anout 3 hundred yards and it went wild when i tried to pull out of the first junction at what I thought was 'gentle'.

Anyway I need to get things back on the road quicker than I thought and need to ride the bike to a new house in the next two weeks. I will be getting the tyre turned round to the correct direction of rotation first obviously. The bike is mechanically fine apart from it has no mirrors on it!!

The problem is me. Im petrified. I know it sounds sad but the rear tyre looks like a sheet of glass and I get really anxious looking at it. Even at the bike show when I looked at the new runbber I felt really uneasy.

I know its pathetic but I cant help it. I dont know what to do. In the past a new tyre has been no problem. I broke in my mates new tyres on his ninja in the rain (front and back) when he didnt want to do it and Ive never had one slip on me before. I just dont want to go out on that new tyre again.

So the sad act question is.... what can I do? Other than get a mate who isnt a complete fanny to go ride it for me? Is there anything I can do to rough it up before I take it out, can I hit it with the sandpaper or something? Im just SO worried.

Im a fanny sorry Crying or Very sad

A 636 you say? ile scrub that tyre in for you, just give me an afternoon in exchange Smile

But seriously just take it very easy man, The bike will only go as fast as your right hand allows, You just have to think back to how you felt when you werent being a pansy Razz hold onto that feeling and then exercise some self control with your right hand, if needs be over-feather the clutch.

You COULD burnout the middle part and sandpaper the edges, but i think if you have to resort to that the problem is far deeper than fear of a new tyre... Maybe get a bike that you are more comfortable with?

Goodluck, Take it EEEZEEEE

Think you have solved the problem.

Quote from a tyre manufacturer......

Designing a tyre tread which will operate equally well rotating in either direction inevitably involves compromises which limit ultimate performance in some respects.

Directional tyres, on the other hand, are designed to rotate in one direction only (indicated by a conspicuous arrow pointing in the direction of rotation on the sidewall along with the word "rotation"); so performance - wet grip, directional stability and handling - far from being compromised, is optimised.

So your not a pansy, just unlucky. Thumbs Up

If it's just the new tyre thats putting you off.. do a burnout on the spot for a minute or so... or give it to someone who can do donuts .... I'm not kiddin.. seriously if you know anyone that can, go for it.. or just do a burnout on spot and lean it over a little to each side.. should take the glaze off the tyre nicely... just make sure you lean it to each side else you won't touch the sides...

For the fella telling me to get rid of my bike because its too powerful, thanks for the opinion but your not helping.

As for burnouts, I dont think Ill be doing that!! Ive done a burnout on a bt014 and there was nearly nothing left of it in an instant!! Ill just end up needing another one!

I tried to play the 'trye wrong way round lost grip card' but got shot down in flames on here and accused of adding to the blame culture by challenging the garage. Doesnt seem to be much mileage down that route unfortunately.

Guess I'll just have to be a man and face it. The thing is, the junction where I came off is the first junction I will have to take to get the bike to the ned house!! Wonderfull!

Thanks anyway all Wink

You can do burnouts and make next to no difference to a tyre at some times....... one burnout on a new tyre will NOT take off much tread provided you're not bouncing off the limiter in 6th gear for 10 minutes..................................

spin it up for a bit and you'll take the glaze off it.. its what Id do to a brand new tyre.. only other way is to ride it! so thats your only two options! either ride the thing or do a burnout to take the glaze off... not much else you can do.

Like said above slow and easy you should be fine.

When i got the 'Four i had to pick it up from a dealer 30miles away from my house (33bhp'ing it) and was the first time i had rode a bike on the road since my off. I was shitting it as was about 1years.

Just taking it superslow i soon found my confidence coming back (well, still went super slow).

I think yourll be fine but ride it like your on a 125cc with no power so your not tempted to use any of the power or test the grip of the tyres Thumbs Up

I appreciate people have had it much worse so Im sorry for moaning. Im not sure what it is that im scared of. If the bike gets damaged the so be it, ive still got neck aches from the off myself and I smashed my helmet. I dont want to buy a new helmet for it to happen again and have some one say 'told you so'.

Im just being an idiot, need to grab the bull by the bollox and get on with it!

Go for a light sandpaper over the tyre as someone else said. Having the tyre put on the correct way round will sort the physical problem out but mentally, just buffing the shiny surface off the tyre may go down a treat. When you're back on it just take it easy mate. Thumbs Up

I scrubbed my tyres in this weekend, did 120mph down my private road and finished with copious amounts of sweeping corners. I suck at the riding and I'm still here Laughing
