Smile

Im doing us proud people!

Firstly, my uncle. Surprise visit today, as he hadnt seen my bike yet, and just wanted a look. He's the manager of the Jaguar centre in boston, lincoln, and has had company cars all his life - some bloody gorgeous jags (and test driven a Jaguar Gorgeous Drooling in the south of france, the bastard) and used to have bikes when he was my age, but hasnt been on them in years.

Sat on my zx6 and revved it, havent seen a 46 year old grin like that before! lol

So i suppose that doesnt count as converting...re-awakening, shall we say!

And took my mate out for a blast, as he was sceptical about bikes, even though he admitted mine sounded rather good, and the stories he hears from me have intrigued him.

So I showed him what an open stretch of country road, and 90/100 odd brake can do Smile

Needless to say, he is presently sorting out selling his punto in january/february, and getting a 125. Mint! Smile

Anyways, just thought Id tell ya. Get out there, and make people see the light! (Or invite them to the dark side Twisted Evil whichevers good for you Thumbs Up )

Cool, i converted a mate few weeks back, he'd never been on a bike before and i took him for a spin on some fast roads. Hes booking his CBT and looking for a 125 now too.

Several friends have been quite interested in how to get started since they found out i ride now and i dont think many people realise that the minimum you need is a 90-100quid CBT and a provisional to get yourself started. Although I expect that many of them probably wont end up bothering without a gentle nudge such as a pillion ride.

That were my thoughts as well, to be fair. I think its how you go about getting that first buzz.

People get the buzz from different ways, for me, I just had to hear a bike, see a bike, smell a bike...and I was literally buzzing. Then when I was old enough, kerbam. And now got a fast un.

For some people, I think they have to experience something properly to get the buzz, such as a test ride.

How did everyone on here first get the "buzz" for bikes?

My dad, I used to wait for him to come home from work on his CX500 he would stop at the driveway and I would run out with a battered old lid and jump on the back while he would drive the 10 secs up the driveway Very Happy

i got into bikes as my uncles used to build them back in the days when norton was a big name in coventry, my dad used to have bikes too, my mother still hates me riding, so much so that she asked my dad who i recently got back in touch with after nearly 30 years to try and talk me out of riding Rolling Eyes

Bikes are addictive stuff.

I have a mate who had never thought about getting a bike until he saw mine. I took him for a spin and that was it. Lessons going on and test booked. Hope he passes next time though Confused

Another mate decided bike lessons were a good idea the second i started and took his test with me. He's still working on scraping the funds together for a bike though.

Get a load of bikes together and their power of attraction is magnified immensely. I remember going to Rivi as a kid and being in awe of the numbers of bikers there. I just wanted to join in.

Thinking about it, my dad had a CB250 back in the late 70's/early 80's.

One of my earliest memories was burning my brand new jacket sleeve on the exhaust as a toddler and promptly getting told off by my mum.

I was hooked from that day on.

My parents, sadly didn't see it that way so it was slowly eating my mind away until mid 2006 when I found out about offroad tryout days.

That was that. It was like everything I imagined it would be, and more. Like kickboxing, I wish I started it earlier.

The rest is history. A 20-odd year old interest or ''dream'' came true. Pity the rest haven't Evil or Very Mad

Who's had the opposite experience then...

ie I've scarred 2 Cagers shitless and they'll never touch a bike.

My wife (cager), only once came on the bike. 30 mins later we got home, apparently she'd just screamed the entire journey, she was white with shock and couldn't stand up properly and has never been anywhere near a bike since.

Yeah it was in the really bad winter a few years ago. We were stuck on the side of the road and I suggested to one of the drivers in another car that it would be better if we shared a car. body heat and all that. One thing led to another and while we were spooning on the back seat......

Oh, just read the other posts, not that sort of conversion Embarassed

I think anyone would be converted when theyre already doing nearly a ton on the back of a zx6, and then an sv1000 and a TL1000R fly past at 150+ Smile

haha, thats awesome!
I got converted the first time I went on the back of a bike as a kid. Was some beefy BMW thing in Germany and the owner (my mum's cousin or something) went straight onto the autobahn. Thought the bike was going to slip out when we were on the on ramp, then he suddenly revved the engine and gunned it past a lorry (whilst still in the sliproad) and pulled onto the motorway, just in time before the sliproad stopped.

WOW I thought. Then we belted it down the autobahn, through a tunnel and got back to where we were staying... me with a MASSIVE grin on my face and I presume my mum looking worried as she shivered at the thought of her little baby on the back of a super crotch rocket Laughing Cool

I used to go to Deutschland twice a year pretty much as my mother is German. I was only a little nipper, probably about 9 or 10, so don't really remember much apart from what seemed like warp factor speed!
If I'd have been old enough to get a hard on, I probably would have!

Hehe, feels good dont it! My mate rung me last night, asking for all the proper details of what he'd need etc, we even discussed what he'd get for his car and stuff, and how that would cover the costs nicely. Got a right good plan for him, and looks like he'll have the funds Thumbs Up

My Uncles on my mums side got me into bikes, i remember sitting on Chris's Suzuki when i was about 6 ot so and doing the brrooom brroom thing on it..bloody hell thats 30 years ago. Anyway, when i was about 10 my uncle had bought his son a little 30cc puch off roader and he let me ride it, that was it....hooked. I remember my Dad once took me to a car show at Belle Vue and the only thing to peek my interest was the Bikes and Trikes. Being the good old sort that he is he bought me my first bike when i was sixteen and taught how to start and stop in the garage. Hey !!! its my 21st next year, may have a bit of a doo Smile

Im confused mate! lol

EDIT: Unless you meant 21st year of biking? If so, I'll slap meself, only just put two and two together lol

Good stuff though. I was at Goodwood festival of speed this year, the only cars that barely peaked my interest really were the awesome road cars, an occasional oldy, a few F1s (the sound is so- mmmmmm lol)

The race bikes and stunt bikes - they were the shizzle

lol, yeah Fawbish it'll be my 21st year of biking Smile Good reason for a party though, 21 years of falling off and getting back on with only minor injuries. Must be doing something right Wink

Well I got in to biking late, I'm 34 and in May this year I decided to sell my MR2, the girlfriend said why don't you get a bike, believe me she didn't have to say it twice, always wanted one anyway.

So did my CBT got and 125 and thats that, gonna do my test early next year, and then bigger bike here we come.

Its strange the bikes off the road at the moment waiting on a part and I miss it so much, having driven cars since I was 17, can't believe how much I don't want to drive the car now and want to be on the bike all the time, no matter what the weather its so much more of a buzz than cars.

Hope to be back on it very soon, can't wait.

What converted me was getting a ride on the back of my mate's R1. He knows how to ride too, he's raced bikes on the track for 15 years. I was never so scared and excited in my life.
