Spent the whole of Saturday morning compairing a K4 GSXR600 Annivesary, a 2005 R6 and a 2004 CBR600RR. This one ticked most boxes.

Would look much better in one colour then red/black as i think it takes away the character. Always liked the headlights tho. Thumbs Up

Cheers Thumbs Up

Was quite impressed - dare I say, better build/finish/detailing than the Honda, verging on the all round appeal of the earlier CBR6Fs (very comfy for me, spacious seat, decent d-bubble screen, clip ons on top of the yoke) but with some of the hooligan thrashable heritage of the early model R6 (without the gearbox agro). Provisions for fold in mirrors, underseat storage, bungee hook points, metal tank, stock undertray, etc all add to why I thought it was the best model for me.

Personally, I really like the colour. Mixed with the headlights and detailing, I feel it gives a slight Alfa-Romeo look.

The only carbon to appear on the bike (well, I say this now, not a few months down the line) is to be a carbon can - the standard item sticks out a bit too much.

Other than that - stock. I'm even changing the tacky tail-tidy for a standard item.

Of course, I don't only test bikes for rideability, performance, etc, but also how well they clean up.

The previously tested Speed Triple was marked down for looking very secondhand despite having covered a 10th of the mileage.

The dealer seemed rather bemused when I started cleaning up each bike's rear shock in turn. A squirt of WD40 goes a long way. Nice amount of clear anodising on the Yam should keep if fresh (as well as the neat as-standard rear hugger).

(Of course, that last statement was ficticious (no, really; it was))

Looks nice that Thumbs Up . Also appears the previous owner kept it in spotless condition. Thought it was a new bike until I saw the scuffed heel plate thing.

Looks well nice Craig, the one thing that makes me cream about an R6 (the modern ones) is the headlights - they look the sex

Good call about the can, the first thing I did to my ZX6 was get rid of the MAHUSIVE steel can, and change to a smaller, louder, better, gorgeous scorpion Thumbs Up

Im just imagining the bike in about 3 months time.

"Hey Craig, nice R6...didnt it have standard bodywork? And, why is it so clean? Wasnt it red and black before? You musta spent a lot of money on it, it looks pristine. Nice can. You've kept the shock spotless! You keep her on a stand in your living room, I assume?"

"It's my daily hack."

One of the minor giveaways - the bike also has a couple of stone chips on the nose. All to be amended on day 1 of course...

lol, with a previous slogan on the NC30 reading "If it ain't broke, clean it" I'm wondering whether I should add "My other bike's cleaner" to the back of the R6...

Looking forward to applying some uber protective Zymol to the R6's luscious red flanks....

It's a shame Honda don't seem to have the quality that they used to. I never thought I'd see the day I'd opt for a Yamaha over a Honda because it had better attention to detail...

The R6 seems to exude quite a stylish look to the 600 middleweights. Like a thug in an expensive suit, I opted for it as the YZF had a kind of understated class to the bike - from the chiselled beauty of the white tacho (looks more like a watch than a dial), to the gear change rod that gracefully passes through the frame, to the 4 sets of those Alfa eyes....

....my kinda bike in other words - all in the detail.

Hello, I Know I don't really post but just had to say that I recognise the background in that pic as I work as one of the mechanics/cleaners/general dogsbodys there. Will probably be prepping that bike at some point this week. I'm not supprised Tim was bemused at you cleaning the shocks most of our customers don't really do that hehe. BTW I rode that when it came in and it's spot on. Nice bike Cool

Cheers Mike Thumbs Up

Looking forward to Saturday, hopefully the weather will hold. I was only kidding about cleaning the rear shock, bike's in such good condition that it shouldn't be too hard to keep tip top.

The future?

Might do another cleaning thread - a more non-intense weekly version maybe....

Money sorted, insurance sorted, OE plate holder en route, new cover and security also on their way, as well as some paddock stand hooks for the already-fitted bobbins.

Roll on Saturday. Looks like the weather's going to be pretty miserable, which should give a good test to the bike's daily uses.

Get those crappy D207's off the first instance you can and fit something more commuter friendly. They have bugger all grip in any circumstance, on a commute or when pressing hard. You don't want to slide it now do you!

Surprised I gotta disagree with you here Titz, (mind you, come to think of it, I have a D208 on the back now, and a D207 on the front)

but when i HAD both D207's didnt find grip to be a major problem at all, plus I got about 5000 miles outta the back D207, then changed to a D208.

Theyre grippy enough for knee downs, fast cornering was no issue, and Im using it ALL the time in shitty weather at the moment, and find no less grip than I have had with other tyres.

Well....spinning it up in greasy conditions cant be classed as no grip Razz thats just fun

I've never been a fan of Dunlops, they don't feel 'right' to me to try and exploit/learn about a new bike, plus I've always found them pants in the wet (my RVF originally came with 207s on, and my CB1 was shod with Alpha 10s) but I'm hoping they should be okay for the time being.

I'm no way going to have them on for long, with a change to either Diablos or 014s pencilled in in time for Christmas. The Diablos especially felt fantastic on my Blade and I'm going to stick with what I feel comfy with.
