Removing a Datatool Duo immobiliser

I want to remove this immobilser, its a very dangerous little item this and nearly cause a fairly bad accident on track when it decided to cut in.

Is this easily done ?

get hold of a wiring diagram for your bike and trace back the wires from the unit all there will be is cable providing a 12v when the ingention is on and a permanent 12v supply to the unit plus 4 cables for two immobilization circuits (supply to HT coils/starter motor normally) these would have to linked out as the immobilizer basically acts as a switch to prevent these from working.

Just leave it parked on the street. Some wee scrote will steal the bike, bypass the immobaliser for you then dump it somewhere a few days later.

As I pointed out to the police when my MZ was stolen, if he managed to bypass a 12 lead immobaliser, why the hell is he stealing bikes? He could make a fortune as an auto electrician (most of the ones I know wouldn't be able to do that job down a back-alley armed with a pair of pliers and a penknife).

I've removed more alarms than I care to remember and, nine times out of ten, they are so badly fitted that it's easier than it should be. At the end of the day, even if the fitter has done a perfect job, it's purely a case or tracing the wires from the immobiliser to the loom and removing the splices where required.

Alternatively, take a trip to sunny Southampton and I'll do it for you, for a botttle of JD

Before you wonder, I'm a trained bike mechanic and also an electronic engineer, comes in handy when an alarm decides to catch fire, as the one on my old Thundercat did

i dont know what it is worth - if you do decide PM me. i'll be interested - even in a month or two cos i wont have a full alarm system by then so an imoboliser would make me feel better.

I've just had a problem with my duo immobiliser.It hasn't worked for some time but the bike started and ran ok.I was coming home from work on the A14 dual cariageway when the bike cut out on the outside lane whilst overtaking(well it would wouldn't it?) I was only a couple of miles from home but I'm not pushing a dragstar on a busy dual carriageway with no hard shoulder.RAC to the rescue,and quite quick as well! The upshot is that I had all electrics except ignition/starter so I started checking the usual suspects eg side stand switch/kill switch etc. but all checked out ok.This left the duo immobiliser so I bit the bullet and started tracing the wiring.Believe me this one was fitted properly.I gradually cut open the loom and disconnected any sensor wires and it came down to 3 wires left.I had to cut the loom back to the headstock to find the ends.(this alarm fitter certainly earned his money)I found that the wire from the ignition switch to the ecu/icu had been replaced by a black wire so all that had to be done was find the black wire to the ecu and join it directly to the ignition switch leaving out the immobiliser and the other wire was just an earth.During the wire search I found that a couple of the duo wires had chafed through which is probably why the immobiler stopped working in the first place then stopped the bike??? Took about 3 hours but it was worth it
