Hadnt started it for well over a month so I kicked it over the other day and it was running fine till I killed the engine then tried to start it again. I have a good spark and the plug is getting fuel..

any ideas?

I did manage to get it started again briefly but it just cut out (like it ran out of fuel) and it hasnt been able to start since..

thanks in advance Smile

edit... wont bump start either.... Sad

How long had you had it running for?

Could possibly be the fuel. Fuel has a shelf life of about 2 weeks. After this period, it becomes less combustive and therefore does not ignite as easily. Perhaps try some new fuel

My bikes been stood for about 2 month now, with half a tank of petrol but about 3 weeks ago I took it about 4 miles (there and back) to the MOT place and it was fine.

Tried replacing the plug?

Didnt flood it did you?

With it being colder it will be harder to start it and keep it running, had to hold my bike on full choke for a few minutes before it would idle with middle choke

I miss the summer days where you could just give the starter a tap and the bike fires up perfectly with no need for any choke Cool Sad

Rubbish! My bike has been off the road for over a year and it still starts first time every time. Fuel has that many additives it wont go off unless you leave it open to the air for an extended period.

The car before now has had fuel in it for months as it was rarely used and also never had any trouble starting.

Or top it up with the new stuff and risk it buggering vehicles, hence the price being so high for fear of vehicle repair bills. Laughing

How is the bike, any progress?

They refill their tanks like every week or something

Fuel tap is 'on' yeah? If not, you may have just used the remaining fuel in the carbs and fuel line, and then run out...

Only remaining problems could be compression or timing then. Either not enough compression in the case, or the plug timing is off. Stick your thumb over the plug hole (with the plug out) and thumb the starter. The compression should be able to push your thumb off the hole.

Its kickstart only (bike is a registered 92' but i think it may be as old as an 89') anyhow ive tried that and there is compression. dont think the timing is adjustable on a tzr either (CDI controls it I thought).

A white spark is a good spark right? Or is a blue spark better.. Can never remember..

Cool. I'll try a new spark plug and see if that makes a difference.

Good job. Anyway, were you getting a white spark then? Was it strong?

Sorry, just as a footnote:

The timing on something that old is probably controlled by a wedge of metal stuck securely into the shaft for the alternator.

In a roundabout way.(I think that's right)
