I need a thatcham Cat 1 for my bike but having no real experience of bike alarms i'm not sure which one to get.
Any recommendations or horror stories? some alarms seem very weedy in the db output and the like. ____________________ Hornet 600, CBR600F, 929 blade, 07 R1, R1200GS, 09 Blade, 750 SRAD, ZZR1200, 954 Blade, KTM 990 Adventure, Ducati 749s |

Fair question, Normally i wouldnt but having a bit of a braney with my insurance company. Bikes a 57 reg R1 which i've insured through Bikesure, took the poloicy out online stated it didnt have an alarm fitted only the YISS imboliser. paid for the insurance in a oner as the APR was one arm one leg and my starboard testicle plus first refusal on my first born child. they have since come back and stated that the T and C's insist on a thatcham cat 1 alarm for my bike.
Severall arguments later and i either get a refund on the remaining insurance or i get an alarm fitted. I lose money if i get a refund whereas it costs me to get an alarm but i at least get something for my money. ____________________ Hornet 600, CBR600F, 929 blade, 07 R1, R1200GS, 09 Blade, 750 SRAD, ZZR1200, 954 Blade, KTM 990 Adventure, Ducati 749s |

I fecking hate alarms. Not only do they have to be bodged onto the existing wiring (depending on ability of spanner monkey fitting it) but they also don't help if you leave the bike for any length of time. Oh and I once had to lug the old ZX-9 back to the dealer on the back of a flatbed because the fob had become 'out of sync' with the receiver unit.
Please don't get me started on the shitty bleeping when working on the thing either. Workshop mode should be SILENT you fecking morons..
In short if you must get one please make sure it's fitted by a decent place. And please don't get one that doesn't shut up, like my Datatool sytem 3 or whatever it's called...

to be fair if i could get away without having one i probably would, my bikes a toy and its not as if i leave it outside work all day or leave it anywhere to be honest. i get it out ride it for the day and put it away again, planning a trip to the alps come spring and it may come in handy there i suppose. Do the pager alert ( i assume its a text) cost a yearly sub like for instance tracker?? ____________________ Hornet 600, CBR600F, 929 blade, 07 R1, R1200GS, 09 Blade, 750 SRAD, ZZR1200, 954 Blade, KTM 990 Adventure, Ducati 749s |

In the last year I have removed four or five alarms and I have another to do this weekend. All had developed a fault of one sort or another.
In the past I have had one alarm immobilise me at home, one whilst out for a spin, one caught fire while I was polishing the bike (I kid you not, plastic off, battery disconnected and wires cut in under a minute) which was just as well, God knows what would have happened if it caught fire while I was away, or riding it at 70 on the motorway
I've had one just stop doing anything and a mate has had one that would randomly disarm and rearm whilst riding along.
I hate alarms, although I've earnt a few quid removing them, and I have never had one fitted, just bought bikes with them on.
IMO, a decent BFO chain, lock and ground anchor will do far more to save your pride and joy and often gets the same discount with insurers.
Cheers

Apparently it has an output so you can text your bike and set the alarm off remotely... how cool is that??
But it doesn't say how much it costs to use... ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F
Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another. |

i have the datatoll system 3 and its fookin loud. very good, you can turn the motion sensors off when you need to fill up and the like. it is sensitive which in my eyes is a good thing...
it goes off when you touch it or if anything electical is tampered with. ____________________ follow my racing season

No, get a Meta M357T V2 - much better than a Datatool in my opinion. Do a search on the forum - there are loads of alarm threads on here. ____________________ Yamaha YZF-R6 |
